Job Description

Sika is looking for an experienced Jr. Chemist to join its growing team in Lyndhurst, NJ.  With an innovative mind for new concepts and chemistry, laboratory benchwork contributes to the development of new technology platforms for new products. Conduct basic research into chemistry that is relevant to sealants and adhesives and their applications. Develop new products. Provide technical support to production plants and customers.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Execute feasibility studies and project designs on the bench to generate meaningful data for project progression
  • Be organized, have a strong attention to detail, and effectively multitask projects.
  • Test products according to Industry standards and Sika Procedures to ensure product quality and performance.
  • Participate in implementing new products/technologies to Sika factories.
  • Perform initial material testing and gain material approvals from customers.
  • Initiate and attend technical presentations from raw material suppliers.
  • Keep accurate records and maintain good laboratory & QC notebook practice.
  • Visit customer sites and provide technical solutions to customers.
  • Work with internal customers: sales, marketing, EHS, and production in assigned activities
  • Participate in and contribute to TC Lyndhurst Safety, Nuage and 5S activities and interact with other Sika global platforms.
  • Maintain a safe, tidy and harassment free work environment.
  • Provide accurate and detailed reports using good data collection and analytic skills.
  • Maintain assigned equipment in good operating condition.

  • Strong teamwork and work in various team environments.
  • Must be able to travel, approx. 10% of work time

 

Qualifications

Qualifications/Experience/Education:

  • BS degree, preferably in Chemistry, Polymer Science, or Chemical Engineering; will also be considered.
  • 0-2 years of hands-on industrial laboratory experience. Experience in sealants and adhesives preferred.
  • Design of Experiments (DOE) experience preferred but not required.
  • Strong presentation skills. Excellent technical and business writing skills.

Good computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project Management
