Job Description

The Trader is responsible for defining and executing regional and global Physical and Financial Trading strategies for both contractual and discretionary books, ensuring alignment with the overall Trading strategy and adherence to risk tolerances and governance frameworks. This role focuses on maximizing returns by identifying and capitalizing on dislocations within the PGM marketplace, aiming to enhance profitability while maintaining compliance with the Company’s established protocols. The Trader acts as a primary business partner to key stakeholders, driving trading insights and decision-making to optimize outcomes.

  1. Safety: Create a safety culture through productive and authorized operational systems/processes that allow all employees (including contracting partners) to provide their outputs in a risk-controlled environment. Oversee consistent application of Safety & Health principles in all discipline interactions and take personal responsibility for safety of self and others to ensure zero harm and elimination of fatalities.
  2. Performance and Delivery 

•       Manage and support the development of direct reports, ensuring team achievement of targets, while fostering cross-commodity collaboration, innovation, and synergies across Marketing BU.

•       Lead by example to embed Marketing BU's behavioral standards and actively engage in company initiatives to demonstrate commitment to advancement.

•       Develop and execute short- to mid-term global strategies for Precious Metals Financial and Physical trading, including equity and third-party volumes, regularly presenting trading ideas and efficiency proposals to leadership.

•       Align trading activities with Production BU objectives to ensure integrated business goals, focusing on budgeted earnings, P&L management, and delivery of volume, margin, debtors, and inventory targets.

•       Build and maintain long-term relationships with end users, brokers, traders, producers, exchanges, and key internal stakeholders to support trading objectives and business integration.

•       Develop new customer accounts by negotiating contracts, meeting value requirements, and expanding opportunities through Physical and Financial instruments.

•       Execute trading strategies within Marketing’s risk and governance framework, coaching team members on compliance to maintain a zero-breach culture.

•       Oversee Front Office’s role in implementing new risk management systems, ensuring all transactions are executed within approved risk limits.

Qualifications

Degree / Diploma in related field

Experience:

Minimum 5 - 7 years experience in similar role

Technical knowledge (experience) required for role:

  • Understand PGM market fundamentals, technical analysis, and global trade flows
  • Possess extensive experience in physical commodity trading, sales, and marketing with expertise in both physical and financial precious metals markets
  • Apply strong risk management principles and effectively communicate trading strategies to a broader audience
  • Apply comprehensive marketing, financial, and risk management knowledge to drive business growth
  • Master the production process, technical specs, market dynamics, and customer needs to deliver value
  • Anticipate and meet customer needs, ensuring high-quality outcomes
  • Use negotiation and influencing skills to build relationships and achieve optimal results
  • Execute physical and financial trading within governance frameworks to enhance profit and loss performance
  • Identify and quantify revenue sources and product flows for trading desk optimization
