Cost Engineer
📍 Location: Newcastle
As Assystem’s Defence Infrastructure account continues to grow, we’re looking for a driven and proactive Cost Engineer to help keep our projects on track and on budget. You’ll play a key role in planning, forecasting, and reporting within a highly regulated environment.
Based in our Newcastle office, this role also benefits from our flexible “new normal” approach supporting a blend of home and office working.
Your missions:
📊 Implement cost control processes on work packages
📈 Prepare project budgets, cost forecasts, and cash flow projections across multiple work packages
🔍 Monitor actual costs against approved baselines, identifying trends, variances, and potential risks to cost performance
📑 Deliver accurate, timely, and transparent cost reports
⚙️ Support change control processes, including evaluation of cost impacts associated with design changes, regulatory requirements, and scope evolution
🤝 Collaborate closely with planning, engineering, procurement, and commercial teams to ensure alignment between cost, schedule, and technical scope
🧾 Create applications for payment and invoices

Qualifications
Key Skills & Experience:
📌 Demonstrable experience in cost engineering or project controls
📊 Strong understanding of cost management techniques, including budgeting and forecasting
🏗️ Experience working within regulated environments with strict change control and quality assurance processes
💻 Proficiency in cost management systems and tools (e.g., Excel, SAP, Primavera P6, or equivalent)
🔎 Strong analytical capability with high attention to detail and data accuracy
🗣️ Ability to communicate complex cost information clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
