Job Description

The Operations Manager role (internally known as "Finishing/Shipping Business Unit Manager") focuses on optimizing the performance of the finishing and shipping departments to achieve operational excellence across safety, people, quality, service, and cost metrics. This position is responsible for the daily leadership, development, and execution of departmental strategies that align with key business objectives and meet both internal and external customer needs. Reporting directly to the Plant Manager, this role maintains full operational and financial accountability within the finishing and shipping departments, exercising performance review and disciplinary authority over a team of both exempt and non-exempt reports. The successful candidate must demonstrate an outstanding ability to work cross-functionally and influence others outside of their organization structure.

This is a salaried, exempt position that is on-site working 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM, Monday - Friday.  The individual will be expected to work occasional off-shifts to support direct- and in-direct staff. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage daily on-site manufacturing operations to train, mentor, and provide professional advancement opportunities for staff while preparing individuals for higher-level roles.

  • Effectively utilize and maintain the Global Performance Management System, delivering regular, constructive feedback, monitoring progress, and adjusting training plans where required.

  • Champion Enterprise Lean Sigma (ELS) projects to minimize process variation, eliminate waste, and ensure progressing advancement against Avery Dennison ELS Global Standards.

  • Design and implement targeted operational improvement strategies covering health and safety, manufacturing costs, workmanship, quality, training, inventory control, and customer service levels.

  • Oversee the strict practice of all health, safety, and environmental procedures, embedding a culture where an injury-free workplace and environmental compliance are absolute top priorities.

Qualifications

  • Required: 6+ years of progressive manufacturing or operations experience.

  • Preferred: Bachelor’s degree combined with robust technical and operational experience, or 3+ years of leadership experience within a manufacturing environment.

  • Results-driven professional with a strong continuous improvement mindset and highly desired Black Belt or Green Belt Certification.

  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and deconstruct complex operational issues utilizing systematic root cause analysis to implement permanent resolutions with a bias toward action.

  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, with the ability and willingness to adjust working schedules flexibly to support continuous three-shift manufacturing operations.
