Job Description

We’re looking for an Industrial Safety Engineer to join our team at Heysham 2 Power Station. This is an exciting opportunity to play a vital role in keeping people safe while helping to shape and strengthen our positive safety culture.

The Opportunity

In this role, you’ll act as a trusted safety expert—providing guidance, supporting teams across the station, and helping us continuously improve how we manage industrial safety. You’ll work closely with colleagues at all levels to ensure we meet both company and regulatory expectations, while also driving meaningful, lasting improvements.

Pay, benefits and culture

The salary range offered with this role is between £47,513 to £99,929 with terms and conditions covered by the EDF Company Agreement.

The starting salary for this appointment will be within the range of £47,513 to £84,595 and will be dependent on your existing salary, competence, experiences, and qualifications. We’re talking about everything from enhanced parental leave to electric vehicle leasing, health insurance to product discounts, critical illness insurance to technology vouchers, gym membership to season ticket loans.

At EDF UK, we embrace flexibility while recognising that everyone's working needs are different. Whether you're in our office spaces, on site, or working remotely, we promote an environment that supports collaboration, connection, and comfort. No matter where you are, our priority is to make sure you feel safe, valued, and celebrated.

Here, we do right by each other and everyone’s welcome. We’re on an action-oriented journey, championing equity, diversity, and inclusion. We’d like our future workforce to have an equal gender balance, represent a broad mix of people from minority ethnic backgrounds, LGBTQ+, those with a disability and supporting social mobility.

We’re a disability confident employer and we’ll do all we can to help with your application. Please let us know if you need to request reasonable adjustments.

We take pride in fostering a dynamic and inclusive environment, where the diverse backgrounds and experiences of our employees drive fresh thinking and innovation. We understand that success means different things to different people. We believe there are multiple definitions of what it means to succeed. That’s why we support you to pursue a career that’s unique to you. Because success is personal.

What you’ll be doing

You’ll contribute to a wide range of activities, including:

  • Supporting robust risk identification and management processes
  • Promoting and embedding a positive, proactive safety culture
  • Monitoring and reporting on safety performance, identifying trends and recommending improvements
  • Reviewing compliance with safety arrangements and suggesting enhancements
  • Supporting incident investigations to identify and address root causes
  • Helping shape and deliver safety training and awareness initiatives
  • Spending time in the field to engage with teams and maintain a strong safety presence

You’ll also:

  • Provide expert advice to teams and leaders across the station
  • Collaborate with regulators and external organisations
  • Support the development of company-wide safety standards and best practice
  • Contribute to fleet-wide improvement initiatives and knowledge sharing
  • Design and deliver engaging safety campaigns

Who you are

We’re interested in people who are passionate about safety and making a difference. You don’t need to tick every box—if you bring relevant experience or transferable skills, we’d still love to hear from you.

Ideally, you’ll have:

  • As a minimum, you will have a relevant HNC (or equivalent)
  • Experience supporting or improving safety culture on a large industrial site
  • Knowledge of UK health and safety legislation and regulatory frameworks
  • Understanding of industrial safety risks and how to manage them effectively
  • Experience with auditing, monitoring, or safety management systems
  • Strong communication skills and the confidence to positively challenge and influence others
  • A collaborative approach and the ability to build strong working relationships

It would be beneficial if you had a NEBOSH Certificate or similar qualification, however, this is not essential.

Closing date for applications is Sunday July 5th, and interviews will follow late July early August

To be appointed to this role, you will need to meet the criteria for Counter Terrorist Check (CTC) which will, ordinarily, require you to have British residency for the last 3 years.
