We are looking for a Senior Estimator to lead preconstruction and estimating efforts for healthcare and commercial construction projects in a general contractor environment. This is a hands-on estimating role with direct ownership of project pursuit, quantity takeoffs, subcontractor pricing, bid strategy, and budget development from concept through turnover to operations. AlphaHire is recruiting on behalf of a client with a strong backlog of healthcare, institutional, and commercial projects throughout the region. This position plays a critical role in securing new work, maintaining estimating accuracy, and supporting continued company growth.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed cost estimates, budgets, and bid proposals for healthcare and commercial construction projects.
  • Perform quantity takeoffs, scope reviews, and pricing analysis using drawings, specifications, and project documents.
  • Solicit, evaluate, and level subcontractor and supplier proposals to develop competitive bids.
  • Identify scope gaps, risk factors, value engineering opportunities, and cost-saving recommendations during preconstruction.
  • Collaborate with operations teams to ensure smooth project turnover from estimating to construction.
  • Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, client discussions, and subcontractor outreach efforts.
  • Develop conceptual and schematic estimates for projects in various stages of design development.
  • Maintain accurate historical cost data and support continuous improvement of estimating processes.
  • Assist with bid schedules, proposal preparation, and pursuit strategy for negotiated and hard-bid opportunities.
  • Support leadership with forecasting, budgeting, and preconstruction planning activities.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of estimating experience within commercial construction, healthcare construction, or institutional construction.
  • Proven experience preparing estimates for healthcare, medical, hospital, or occupied facility projects.
  • Strong understanding of construction drawings, specifications, scopes of work, and estimating methodologies.
  • Experience developing subcontractor relationships and managing bid solicitation processes.
  • Proficiency with construction estimating software and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to identify project risks, evaluate costs, and provide accurate pricing recommendations.
  • Experience working for a general contractor is required.
  • Residential-only construction experience will not be sufficient for this position.
  • Healthcare construction experience is strongly preferred due to the nature of the project portfolio.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field is preferred.

Benefits

Compensation: Competitive salary based on experience.

Benefits may include health insurance, retirement plan options, paid time off, performance-based bonus opportunities, and other company-sponsored programs.
