We are seeking an experienced Director of Business Development to lead revenue generation, client acquisition, and project pursuit strategy within a general contractor environment.

This role is responsible for building and managing a strong pipeline of commercial construction opportunities across private and public sector markets. The ideal candidate has deep construction industry knowledge, strong client relationships, and the ability to lead the full business development process from early opportunity identification through contract award.

This is a hands-on leadership role for a seasoned construction sales professional who can develop relationships, understand project scope, support bid strategy, and help position the company to win new work.

Responsibilities

  • Build and manage a pipeline of commercial construction opportunities through strategic outreach, networking, referrals, and industry relationships
  • Identify and pursue private and public sector projects aligned with company capabilities and growth goals
  • Develop and maintain relationships with developers, owners, construction managers, architects, engineers, and public sector decision-makers
  • Lead client-facing conversations around project feasibility, preliminary budgeting, construction approach, and company capabilities
  • Review RFPs, drawings, specifications, and project requirements to support competitive pursuit strategy
  • Prepare and present proposals including scope, pricing strategy, value engineering, and project approach
  • Source and qualify subcontractors across relevant trades to support accurate bid development
  • Lead internal bid strategy meetings and collaborate with estimating, operations, and leadership teams to assemble winning proposals
  • Coordinate with project managers, architects, engineers, and internal stakeholders to align scope and expectations prior to award
  • Lead contract negotiations and support a smooth transition from business development to project execution
  • Track pipeline activity, proposal status, client communication, and revenue opportunities

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in business development, sales, or client acquisition within commercial construction or general contracting
  • Proven track record of winning commercial and/or government construction projects
  • Experience responding to RFPs and developing detailed construction bids and proposals
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, scopes, and construction contract documents
  • Established network within commercial construction, real estate development, public sector, or construction services markets
  • Hands-on experience working with subcontractors and assembling competitive bid pricing
  • General contractor or construction services background required
  • Direct deal ownership experience required — support-only or coordination-only backgrounds will not be considered
  • Strong communication, negotiation, presentation, and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to operate independently while collaborating effectively with internal teams
