We are seeking an experienced General Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of a high-volume retail garden center while helping lead the continued growth of a customer-focused retail environment.
This is a senior leadership opportunity with broad responsibility across store operations, merchandising, staffing, customer experience, and overall business performance. The ideal candidate is a hands-on retail leader who can think strategically while also driving execution at the floor level.
You will work closely with ownership to strengthen operational consistency, improve the customer experience, and build scalable systems that support long-term growth and profitability.
Responsibilities
- Oversee all retail operations including sales performance, merchandising, staffing, and customer experience across multiple departments
- Lead, coach, and develop store managers, supervisors, and retail staff
- Create and execute merchandising strategies that improve product presentation, increase foot traffic, and drive sales growth
- Monitor daily sales performance, staffing levels, and operational metrics while proactively resolving operational gaps
- Improve the in-store customer experience through layout optimization, service standards, and employee training
- Partner with ownership on seasonal planning, operational strategy, and long-term growth initiatives
- Manage inventory flow, seasonal product transitions, and product assortment with a focus on profitability and presentation
- Build a high-accountability culture centered on customer service, operational excellence, and measurable results
- Identify operational inefficiencies and implement process improvements across the business
- Ensure store operations remain organized, efficient, and aligned with company standards
Requirements
- 5+ years of retail management experience required
- Background in garden centers, landscaping supply, nursery operations, outdoor living, or specialty retail environments preferred
- Proven success leading teams within high-volume, customer-facing retail operations
- Strong experience with merchandising, product presentation, and retail sales strategy
- Ability to manage multiple departments and operational functions simultaneously
- Demonstrated success improving customer experience and driving consistent revenue growth
- Strong leadership, communication, and team development skills
- Comfortable operating within a fast-paced, hands-on seasonal retail environment
- Working knowledge of inventory management, staffing, scheduling, and daily retail operations
