About this role

Mission

TAR’s mission is to power intelligence for the world. We are building the world’s first off-grid power plant for data centers powered by renewable technologies.

We firmly believe AI should be built in the US for the benefit of all people. For that, power must be fast, clean and scalable. We are singularly focused on delivering GW-scale power faster than anyone has ever done, by rethinking every layer of the stack.

To deliver on this vision, TAR manufactures, deploys and operates off-grid energy assets with a renewable backbone. We vertically integrate to solve every bottleneck, from racking systems to power electronics to dispatch algorithms to on-site construction.

Leave your mark by powering the future of civilisation-scale energy infrastructure.

We hire people who care deeply about this problem space. If that is you, please apply!

Company

We are a team of seasoned operators run by founders who previously scaled a company to over 80 people and $350M in annual sales. We know how to operate and we move fast.

We are working directly with one of the largest compute providers to make our vision come true and plan to deploy 5GWs by 2028.

TAR is both a hardware and software company, we are building out massive, critical, physical infrastructure.

We operate on…

  • High ownership. High Agency. Own project end-to-end. Great people don’t need to be managed.

  • Speed. We achieve great things on incredible timelines. We always push ourselves to go faster.

  • First principles. No ego. No hierarchy. Challenge every assumption.

  • Passion. Solving the energy problem is one of the largest challenges that faces the world now and in the future. We put in long hours and hard work to solve this.

About the role

The bottleneck to GW-scale off-grid power is not panels or batteries. It is how fast you can physically build the plant. TAR is standing up a robotics program to automate the deployment of energy assets at a speed and scale the industry has never seen: machines that install racking, place modules, run civil works, and assemble power blocks across hundreds of acres of West Texas, faster and more reliably than human crews. As a Senior Robotics Engineer, you build this program from the ground up and own it end-to-end, from the first prototype machine to a coordinated autonomous fleet in the field. This is a mid to senior level role on a team with no legacy and enormous ambition; we scope ownership and title to the person, and the most senior hires build and lead the function from zero.

Responsibilities

  • Design and build automated machines for energy deployment, racking, module placement, and civil works at GW scale on compressed timelines.

  • Architect fleet management and coordination for large autonomous fleets operating across active construction sites.

  • Develop low-level closed-loop control for individual machines and high-level adaptive control across the fleet.

  • Build sensor fusion and precise positioning and localization for machines operating outdoors at scale.

  • Stand up simulation for modeling, testing, and reinforcement learning using data-driven methods.

  • Model and integrate robotic arms and manipulators for deployment tasks.

  • Own production planning with vendors and drive machines from prototype to field-deployable hardware.

  • Work hand in hand with low-level software, mechanical, and electrical engineering.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in designing autonomous and/or robotic systems

  • Robotics experience with real, deployed-system work, not solely research or lab work.

  • Ability to take a robotics effort a long way independently, from architecture through field deployment.

  • Strong control background spanning low-level closed-loop control and higher-level adaptive and coordination control.

  • Hands-on ROS 2 experience.

  • Sensor fusion, state estimation, and positioning expertise.

  • Experience taking robotic hardware from prototype to production with vendors.

  • High ownership, bias for speed, and comfort with ambiguity.

Nice to have

  • Experience at a top deployment-robotics company such as Figure, Physical Intelligence, Waymo, Zipline, or Zoox.

  • Reinforcement learning and sim-to-real transfer for physical systems.

  • Robot-arm and manipulation modeling and control.

  • Outdoor, heavy-industry, or construction robotics experience.

  • Experience hiring and building a robotics team from zero.

Salary and Benefits

  • Total compensation: $320-850K/year (top of range, and beyond, for exceptional fleet-leading candidates)

    • Base salary: $120-250K

    • Equity: $200-600K/year at TAR’s most recent valuation

  • Up to $15K Relocation bonus

  • Unlimited PTO

  • Health, Dental, Vision insurance

  • $1K monthly stipend for meals
