Description of Work

Reporting directly to the Maintenance/Construction Supervisor III, the primary purpose of this position is to install, maintain, alter, and repair plumbing systems and components at the journey level of the plumbing trade. Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

- Possessing working knowledge of the methods of installation and repair of commercial plumbing, as well as safety precautions of the plumbing trade.
- Using power tools associated with plumbing trade, cutting and threading pipe, utilizing motorized and mechanical tools, and familiar with building, life, and safety codes.
- Soldering copper pipe and utilizing the standard tools and materials required for those types of procedures.
- Making material list(s) for projects and submitting to supervisor for review.
- Making up lead joints and installing various types of plastic pipe, also knowledge in replacing stainless steel and porcelain plumbing fixtures.
- Supervising semi-skilled male offenders and subject to emergency call back.

Salary Range: $39,244 - $68,679

The salary grade for this position is NC08.  State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as, or lower than, their current position.  If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity.  Based upon these factors, a pay increase May result.

About the Division of Institutions:

The Division of Institutions manages the daily operations of all state-operated prison facilities across North Carolina. Facilities are categorized by custody levels (minimum, medium, close) and house individuals serving sentences for felony convictions. The division provides safety, security, and rehabilitative services through trained custody staff, program facilitators, and administrative personnel.

About Southern Correctional Institution:

Southern Correctional Institution is located in Troy, North Carolina and houses up to 700 male offenders in a close, medium, and minimum custody facility.
