About Us

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol's primary mission is to reduce collisions and make the highways of North Carolina as safe as possible. The NCSHP has more than 1,600 troopers who cover nearly 80,000 miles of North Carolina roadways, more than any other state except Texas. In addition to enforcing the state's traffic laws, state troopers also guide traffic during hurricane evacuations, re-route traffic around hazardous chemical spills, and they stand ready should any act of terrorism occur. State Troopers are committed to protecting North Carolina's motoring public.

Description of Work

This position requires the monitoring of multiple large scale networks and support of these networks. These networks include, VIPER (Voice Interoperability Plan for Emergency Responders), CJIN/DCI, OFM and NCSHP Internal Network. This position is responsible for first level troubleshooting and for monitoring for any network or site issues that may arise. This position is responsible for notification of users, technicians and vendors when a problem comes up and to work with Network Technicians to help resolve the problem. Requires extensive experience with contractors to design, install, and support both new and existing systems. Employee will support the North Carolina State Highway Patrol Continuity of Operations efforts network operations and routing, understanding of user operations, and customer service skills. This position requires DCI Certification, which is re-certified every two years, and requires shift work to provide 24/7/365 coverage.

Salary Grade DT04 Recruitment Range $54,657- 60,000

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Working knowledge of network monitoring systems and/or communication network
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Working knowledge of Network Diagnostic Software tools

Management Preferences

  • Knowledge of radio communications equipment
  • Two Years experience working in a Network Operations Center

This mission will be accomplished, in partnership with all levels of government and the citizens of North Carolina, through quality law enforcement services based upon high ethical, professional, and legal standards.

This section has the responsibility of managing the operation of the State’s Voice Interoperability Plan for Emergency Responders (VIPER), a Statewide communications system for the purpose of providing digital voice communication for the members of the N.C. State Highway Patrol (NCSHP), Criminal Justice Information Network (CJIN), and other local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies.

Minimum Education and Experience
