Project Engineer - Commercial Electrical Construction
Posted 1 day ago
We are hiring a hands-on Project Engineer to support large-scale commercial electrical construction projects throughout the Detroit area.
We are specifically looking for someone with commercial construction experience who understands project documentation, procurement, scheduling, cost tracking, and field coordination. Projects include hospitals, healthcare facilities, universities, institutional buildings, and other technically complex commercial environments.
This is not a remote or document-processing-only position. You will work directly with Project Managers, Foremen, Superintendents, BIM/VDC teams, vendors, and general contractors while supporting active field operations. The role offers a clear advancement path into Assistant Project Manager and Project Manager
Responsibilities
- Support commercial electrical projects from preconstruction turnover through final closeout
- Prepare and track RFIs, submittals, change orders, transmittals, procurement logs, and closeout documentation
- Review electrical drawings, specifications, schedules, contracts, and scopes of work
- Coordinate with Project Managers, Foremen, electricians, vendors, subcontractors, and general contractors
- Track equipment orders, material deliveries, long-lead items, project milestones, and field progress
- Assist with project schedules, cost tracking, billing documentation, forecasting, and committed costs
- Participate in project meetings, jobsite walks, and field coordination discussions
- Work with BIM/VDC and field teams to identify conflicts and support constructible installation solutions
- Maintain accurate project logs, meeting notes, reporting, and document controls
- Help resolve missing information, schedule conflicts, procurement concerns, and field coordination issues
Requirements
- 2+ years of experience in commercial electrical construction, project engineering, or a related construction role
- Experience working for an electrical contractor or specialty subcontractor strongly preferred
- Understanding of RFIs, submittals, change orders, procurement, scheduling, and project documentation
- Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, specifications, contracts, and project schedules
- Strong organization, communication, follow-up, and problem-solving skills
- Comfortable working directly with Project Managers, Foremen, Superintendents, electricians, and field personnel
- Ability to manage multiple priorities across active projects
- Willingness to visit Detroit-area jobsites and support field operations
Benefits
- Competitive salary based on experience
- Health insurance and benefits package
- Retirement plan options
- Paid time off
- Bonus opportunities
- Vehicle allowance may be available
- Defined advancement path toward Assistant Project Manager and Project Manager roles
- Opportunity to support technically complex commercial electrical projects
This position is ideal for a construction professional who wants direct project responsibility, meaningful field exposure, and a long-term career path in commercial electrical construction.
