Job Description

Shape the future of a large-scale cloud platform for e-mobility

At vaylens, you'll architect one of the leading SaaS platforms in the rapidly growing e-mobility industry. Our platform consists of 80+ cloud-native applications and microservices powering business portals, mobile apps, and digital services that enable the operation of charging infrastructure across Europe.

As the market evolves at high speed, so does our platform. New products, integrations, and services, increasing data volumes, demanding performance requirements, and evolving customer expectations continuously create exciting architectural challenges. This is where you come in.

As our Senior Solution Architect, you'll define the architecture behind the next generation of our platform. You'll drive cross-team solution design, shape the evolution of our microservice landscape, and make key technology decisions that ensure our platform remains scalable, secure, resilient, and ready for future growth.

Working closely with Product Management, Engineering, DevOps, and the Head of Platform Architecture, you'll influence our technical direction, lead strategic architecture initiatives, and help engineering teams solve complex distributed systems challenges. If you enjoy balancing big-picture architecture with hands-on technical discussions—and want to leave your fingerprint on a platform operating at scale—this role is for you.

Your responsibilities

  • Own the solution and system architecture for cross-team platform initiatives, ensuring alignment with our long-term architectural vision.
  • Translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions, defining APIs, domain models, system interfaces, and integration concepts for our Java/Spring Boot microservices and Angular applications.
  • Design architectures that balance scalability, resilience, security, performance, maintainability, and cost efficiency.
  • Define cloud infrastructure requirements together with DevOps and drive cloud-native best practices on AWS and Kubernetes.
  • Lead architectural initiatives such as platform modernization, migrations, third-party integrations, and Proofs of Concept for emerging technologies.
  • Evaluate technologies, frameworks, and architectural patterns to continuously evolve our technology landscape.
  • Provide architectural guidance to engineering teams, conduct architecture reviews, and ensure compliance with engineering, security, and quality standards.
  • Act as a trusted sparring partner for the Head of Platform Architecture, Product Owners, Software Project Managers, and engineering teams on strategic technology decisions.
  • Mentor engineers and architects, foster technical excellence, and contribute to a strong engineering culture.
  • Support Sales and Customer Success by designing customer-specific solution and migration concepts for enterprise customers.

    Qualifications

    What you'll bring

    • A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a comparable qualification.
    • 8+ years of professional experience in Software Engineering within Java Enterprise/Spring environments and at least 5 years of experience as a Software or Solution Architect designing distributed, cloud-native systems.
    • Extensive experience designing and implementing cloud-native architectures, ideally on AWS, with strong knowledge of Kubernetes, microservices, APIs, and modern software architecture principles.
    • Strong understanding of software quality, scalability, performance, security, and maintainability in SaaS environments.
    • Proven ability to lead cross-team technical initiatives such as architecture redesigns, platform migrations, or large integration projects.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to evaluate architectural trade-offs and make sustainable technology decisions.
    • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to different audiences.
    • Experience working in agile development environments; experience with SAFe is an advantage.
    • Fluent English (written and spoken); basic German skills are a plus.
    • Experience in the EV charging industry or relevant architecture certifications are welcome but not required.

    Why this role?

As a Senior Solution Architect, you'll have a significant impact on the future of our platform. Your architectural decisions will influence the scalability, security, performance, and long-term success of our products while helping engineering teams deliver innovative solutions for customers around the world.
