We are seeking an experienced and commercially minded Senior Tax Manager to join our Tax & Legal practice. The successful candidate will lead the delivery of high-quality business tax compliance and advisory services to a diverse portfolio of local and multinational clients across multiple industries. This role requires strong technical expertise in corporate taxation, deferred taxation and accounting for income taxes, coupled with exceptional client relationship management, business development and people leadership capabilities.
The Senior Tax Manager will play a critical role in advising clients on complex tax matters, managing tax risks, supporting strategic transactions, leading multidisciplinary engagements and developing high-performing teams.
The holder of this position will ensure that assignments are carried out to the highest standards in order to provide outstanding value to clients and the Firm; develop high-performing people and teams, leading and supporting them to make an impact that matters; and setting the direction to deliver exceptional client service.

What you will do
Client Service and Tax Technical Leadership
- Lead the delivery of business tax compliance and advisory engagements for a broad portfolio of clients.
- Drive client service and technical leadership, including advising clients on the interpretation and application of tax legislation and international tax developments
- Provide technical advice on corporate income tax, deferred tax, withholding taxes and other direct tax matters.
- Review and approve complex corporate income tax computations, tax returns, deferred tax calculations and tax accounting positions.
- Provide technical guidance on accounting for income taxes under IFRS, including IAS 12.
- Provide robust audit support tax reviews, including deferred tax
- Advise clients on tax-efficient business structures, reorganisations, mergers, acquisitions and other strategic transactions.
- Support clients during tax audits, investigations and tax dispute resolution processes.
- Conduct tax health checks and risk assessments and recommend practical solutions to manage tax exposures.
- Monitor legislative and regulatory developments and communicate their implications to clients and internal stakeholders.
- Manage the review of clients’ draft tax computations and preparation of tax returns for submission to Malawi Revenue Authority.
- Manage tax compliance assignments as may be requested by clients.
- Assist clients with correspondence to and from Malawi Revenue Authority and resolving arising issues timeously.
- Participate in networking events, industry forums and thought leadership initiatives.
- Collaborate across service lines to deliver integrated solutions.
- Ensure that additional client needs are identified and met; and tailor services provided to take account of and add value to those client’s needs.
- Focus on quality and ensure deliverables are produced to the agreed firm’s standard.
- Work with the partners to agree fees that reflect the value of services provided and responsibilities assumed, and are considered fair and reasonable by our clients.
- Assist the partners in expanding the firm’s clientele; and deliver successful written proposals & presentations.Any other duties as assigned by the partners from time to time.
Tax Advisory Leadership
Provide strategic tax advice in areas including, but not limited to:
- Corporate tax planning and transactions
- M&A, Business restructurings and Investment structuring
- Tax due diligence
- Tax Health Checks
- Deferred tax advisory
- Tax accounting
- Tax governance and risk management
- Incentives and exemptions
- Cross-border taxation
- Transfer pricing support in collaboration with specialists

Client Relationship Management
- Develop and maintain trusted relationships with senior client executives and finance leaders.
- Act as a strategic adviser, identifying opportunities to enhance client value.
- Lead client meetings, presentations and technical workshops.
- Manage engagement economics, budgets, profitability and billingEnsure engagements are delivered on time, within budget and to the firm's quality standards.
Business Development
- Identify opportunities to expand existing client relationships and win new business.
- Prepare proposals, tenders and presentations.
- Participate in networking events, industry forums and thought leadership initiatives.
- Collaborate across service lines to deliver integrated solutions.
Leadership and People Development
- Lead, coach and mentor managers, assistant managers and associates.
- Review work performed by engagement teams and provide constructive feedback.
- Support talent development, succession planning and performance management.
- Foster an inclusive, collaborative and high-performance culture.
- Champion continuous learning and technical excellence.
- Provide on-the-job training; act as an effective mentor; conduct performance appraisals; participate in recruitment, training and development; and delegate work to junior tax staff.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Taxation or a related field.
- Professional qualification such as ACCA, CA, CPA or equivalent
Additional Information
- Typically 7+ years of progressive tax experience, with substantial experience in a professional services environment.
- Significant experience managing complex corporate tax compliance and advisory engagements.
- Demonstrable experience leading teams and managing client relationships.
- Experience working with multinational organisations is advantageous.
- Prior Big 4 or leading professional services experience, or MRA experience is preferred.
