Job Description

The Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) Construction Manager is responsible for analyzing electromechanical and special installations for hotel construction projects, verifying compliance with project technical specifications, hospitality brand standards, and Mexican legislation norms, as well as elaborating, controlling reports, and monitoring contractor performance, recommending actions for continuous improvement.

The MEP Construction Manager works across mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and special systems disciplines and is responsible for direct, day-to-day monitoring of the work site, ensuring alignment with hotel operational requirements, guest experience standards, and project delivery timelines.

Qualifications

Education/Experience:

  • 10 of professional experience with a minimum of 5 years working as a Project Manager or MEP Construction Manager coordinating MEP design and construction on hotel, hospitality, or mixed-use developments (including resorts, business hotels, or luxury properties).
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical and/or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Experience with electrical systems, HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, life safety systems, BMS (Building Management Systems), and hotel-specific systems such as kitchen equipment, laundry facilities, guest room controls, and back-of-house operations.
  • Commissioning experience is required, including testing and balancing, system integration, and readiness for hotel operations opening.
  • PMI certification is a plus.
  • Experience in LEED or sustainable hospitality projects is a plus.
  • Fluent in English and Spanish to lead project team meetings, issue written communications, minutes, reports, and coordinate with international hotel operators and stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Project and Primavera P6.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD and BIM platforms.

Skills and Qualifications

The candidate must demonstrate advanced knowledge in the following construction and site support activities:

  • Capacity to analyze and evaluate construction drawings, technical specifications, and scope of work on site, comparing project requirements against Mexican standards, international codes, and hotel brand standards.
  • Knowledge of methodologies to develop construction schedules and cost estimates, contributing to WBS development, project cost control, and value engineering initiatives specific to hospitality projects.
  • Contribute to risk analysis, including operational risks related to hotel opening, and updating the project risk matrix.
  • Interpretation, application, and implementation of safety standards and best practices, particularly in occupied or partially operational hotel environments where applicable.
  • Installation and coordination of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, including specialized hotel systems and guest-facing infrastructure.
  • Inspection of fabrication and installation of piping, equipment, and systems, ensuring compliance with specifications and brand requirements.
  • Checkout, pre-commissioning, and commissioning planning and execution, ensuring systems are fully operational and aligned with hotel opening schedules.
  • Work planning, scheduling, and execution experience in fast-track, high-quality finish environments typical of hotel construction.
  • Familiarity with quality requirements to define and review QA/QC plans, ensuring high standards of finishes and system performance in guest areas and back-of-house spaces.
  • Ability to plan and manage work for self and others, coordinating with multiple trades and stakeholders in a complex hospitality environment.
  • Facilitate and participate in design reviews, ensuring alignment between design intent, constructability, and hotel operational needs.
  • Ability to review and understand scopes of work, drawings, and project documents, and clarify technical issues with contractors and consultants.
  • Review and evaluate contractor bids during bid leveling, ensuring technical compliance and alignment with hospitality project requirements.
  • Regularly communicate with client operations and hotel operator representatives regarding day-to-day site activities, coordinating system tie-ins, testing, and integration with operational readiness plans.
  • Prepare, issue, and present reports, and attend weekly meetings as scheduled, providing clear visibility of MEP progress, risks, and readiness for hotel opening.
