Job Description
We are seeking a detail-oriented and efficient Commis 1 - Tandoor to join our culinary team in Visakhapatnam, India. In this entry-level kitchen position, you will work under the guidance of our head chef and senior cooking staff to prepare authentic tandoor-cooked dishes. You will be responsible for operating the tandoor oven, preparing ingredients, and maintaining the highest standards of food quality and safety. This role offers an excellent opportunity to develop your culinary skills in a fast-paced, collaborative kitchen environment while specializing in traditional tandoor cooking techniques.
- Operate and maintain the tandoor oven, ensuring proper temperature control and consistent cooking results
- Prepare and marinate proteins and vegetables according to established recipes and chef specifications
- Execute precise knife skills and food preparation tasks with attention to detail and food safety standards
- Organize and maintain your assigned station, ensuring all tools, ingredients, and equipment are properly arranged and accessible
- Collaborate with kitchen team members to ensure timely preparation and plating of dishes during service
- Monitor cooking times and temperatures to ensure dishes meet quality standards and are served promptly
- Assist with inventory management, stock rotation, and reporting of supply needs
- Maintain strict adherence to food safety, hygiene, and sanitation protocols at all times
- Follow all recipes and cooking techniques as directed by senior kitchen staff
- Support other kitchen stations as needed to maintain smooth kitchen operations
Qualifications
- Proficiency in tandoor oven operation and basic maintenance
- Knowledge of Indian cuisine and traditional tandoor cooking techniques
- Understanding of food safety and hygiene practices in a commercial kitchen
- Demonstrated ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, high-volume kitchen environment
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
- Excellent teamwork and communication abilities
- Physical stamina to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks
- Basic knife skills and food preparation experience
- Familiarity with spice blending, marinades, and flavor profiles used in tandoor cooking
- Ability to follow instructions and take direction from senior kitchen staff
- Preferred: Previous experience working in a professional kitchen or culinary setting
- Preferred: Knowledge of food costing and portion control principles
