  • Location: Netherlands/The Hague (hybrid work is possible, expected minimum office days: 2/week) 
  • Duration: 4-6 months (Visa not sponsored by SNV) 
  • Contract type: Internship with 32-40 hours work per week 
  • Expected start date: September 2026 

To be considered for this role, you need to be enrolled in higher education for the entire internship in a relevant field. 

We are seeking a highly motivated Intern to join our Global Accounting Team. The internship will focus on providing a valuable learning experience while supporting the team in various initiatives. As the Global Accounting Intern, you will have the opportunity to learn about the accounting processes in SNV and you will be part of the global accounting support team (approx. 4 FTEs), finance department, located in The Hague, the Netherlands. The global accounting team is responsible for driving continuous improvements to SNV’s financial accounting, administration and reporting, ensuring compliance with the donor, regulatory, and SNV requirements and producing integer, transparent, complete and accurate financial data. Therefore, the team develops, implements, and maintains the financial policies and procedures, as well as monitors and improves the processes for accounting and administration in SNV’s ERP system {SAP Business by Design (SBD)} in compliance with the Dutch General Accounting Principles. This includes the chart of accounts, the accounting processes related to purchase -to-pay, order-to-cash, and record-to-report processes.   

The Global Accounting Team:   

  • Supports country’ and project’ finance teams with the implementation and execution of daily financial accounting activities and processes, and financial reporting.    
  • Guides and coaches, the country finance teams in periodic closings of their financial accounting records, performs the financial checks, and reviews the balances after the monthly close, extensive closes and year-end close.   
  • Provides advice on issues relating to project audits, minimising ineligible costs.   
  • Drives capacity building of country finance teams by trainings, support, review, feedback, etc.   
  • Identifies and proposes solutions to solve (potential) financial risks as well as ensures learning and feedback on relevant issues throughout the accounting cycle and across the organisation with a view to continuous improvement.   
  • Coordinates the global audit of all 20+ countries and consolidates the annual accounts of SNV.

Tasks and activities may include:  

  • Support in month end close and extensive close processes
  • Support in the interim global audit 
  • Support in intercompany reconciliations
  • Support in updating the bank directories and suppliers Masterdata in SBD for selected countries. 
  • Support Global Accounting team in other accounting processes and contribute to their improvement.  

Qualifications

To qualify for this internship, we ask for the following requirements: 

  • Enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's program at an accredited EU university with a focus on Accounting, or Finance and you can provide a certificate of enrolment. 
  • Excellent written and spoken English communication skills, French is an added advantage.  
  • A desire to learn and contribute to a collaborative team environment.  
  • Analytical and conceptual thinking skills.   
  • Pro-active, pragmatic and solution driven.   
  • A curious, self-motivated individual that works well in a team.   
  • Proficient in English, with strong written and verbal communication skills.  
  • You must have the legal right to reside in the Netherlands for the internship period (SNV does not sponsor visas or permits for interns). 

Additional Information

Our offer to you 
SNV offers a hands-on and dynamic internship experience with an enthusiastic team at our global office in The Hague. To ensure an optimal learning experience, we request you to work from the office in The Hague 50% of the time. Our offer includes:  

  • Available for minimum of 4 months and preferably 6 months- between 32-40 hours per week.  
  • Internship allowance: €500 gross per month (for a 40-hour workweek), plus reimbursement for public transport costs (if applicable).  
  • Flexible starting date, with a preference for September 2026.
