Position Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of Compliance, Import/Export Licensing, and Operations (CIELO) to lead and oversee all activities related to compliance, import/export licensing, international trade operations, and logistics. This is a mission-critical leadership role, responsible for ensuring that all domestic and international activities are conducted in accordance with U.S. and foreign regulatory requirements — particularly the ITAR, EAR, OFAC, ATF, and applicable UK/EU regulations.

The Director will work cross-functionally with engineering, legal, program management, and international partners to implement and oversee a world-class compliance infrastructure that enables rapid yet secure innovation, and will serve as the Empowered Official for Tiberius Aerospace.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead the development and execution of global trade compliance strategies for import, export, licensing, and logistics operations.
  • Ensure full compliance with U.S. and foreign regulations, including ITAR, EAR, OFAC, ATF, FTR, and UK/EU export controls.
  • Draft, manage and maintain export licenses (DSP-5, DSP-73, TAAs, MLAs, SNAP-R) and serve as the primary Empowered Official.
  • Serve as the point of contact with DDTC, BIS, CBP, HMRC, UK MoD, ECJU, and other relevant U.S. and foreign regulatory agencies.
  • Establish and enforce internal policies, training, and audit protocols to maintain a culture of compliance.
  • Coordinate with legal counsel and government affairs teams to monitor evolving trade regulations and their business impacts.
  • Lead internal investigations and develop voluntary disclosures and corrective action plans when needed.
  • Develop and implement scalable, automated compliance solutions in collaboration with engineering and technology teams.
  • Ensure accurate customs classification, shipping documentation, valuation, and recordkeeping in partnership with logistics and supply chain teams.
  • Advise executive leadership on global compliance risks and opportunities related to international expansion and partnerships.
  • Support due diligence and compliance readiness for international collaborations, including partner and supply chain vetting.

What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in International Affairs, Law, Engineering, or related field; Master’s or JD preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in global trade compliance, licensing, and operations within the aerospace, defense, or dual-use technology sectors.
  • Expertise in ITAR, EAR, OFAC, ATF, FTR, and UK/EU defense export controls.
  • Demonstrated experience serving as an Empowered Official and managing end-to-end licensing activities.
  • Proficiency with DECCS, SNAP-R, ACE, AESDirect, and UK/EU systems (e.g., SPIRE, OGELs).
  • Experience guiding organizations through regulatory audits, inspections, and compliance reviews.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • U.S. Citizenship required due to USG Security Clearance requirements.

    Nice to Have
  • Experience scaling compliance programs in a startup or high-growth environment.
  • Familiarity with international trade requirements for aerospace/defense supply chains, including defense offsets.
  • Background in customs brokerage, logistics, or controlled technology transfer.
  • Active U.S. security clearance.
  • CUSECO, ITAR Professional, or equivalent trade compliance certification.

    How WE Support You
  • Competitive salary and benefits package to include 401(k).
  • Flexible time off, sick time, holidays and more.
  • Remote working culture with hybrid requirements for lab work.
  • Collaborative and innovative work environment.
  • Support for professional growth and career development.
  • Work with a dynamic and passionate team of professionals.
