Lead Software Engineer

Job Description

This role is for a Lead Software Engineer in a Digital AgTech team in Pune, responsible for leading technical architecture and delivery of scalable backend and frontend solutions for innovative agriculture products. It requires strong expertise in Java or Python, React, and AWS cloud-native development, along with leadership in mentoring teams, driving design decisions, and modernizing systems. The position also demands strong problem-solving, collaboration, and communication skills to deliver high-quality results in a fast-paced environment.

Accountabilities:

• Lead end-to-end design, development, and delivery of scalable full-stack applications, owning architecture and technical roadmaps.
• Drive feature ownership from concept to production, including design, coding, testing, deployment, and support.
• Collaborate with product, UX, and engineering teams to build high-quality, well-architected solutions aligned with business goals.
• Champion engineering best practices such as clean code, code reviews, CI/CD, automated testing, and system observability.
• Troubleshoot complex issues, optimize performance, and ensure application reliability, security, and scalability.
• Mentor and guide engineers while contributing to Agile processes and fostering engineering excellence.
• Strong backend expertise in Java (Spring Boot) or Python (FastAPI/Django/Flask) with solid React and modern frontend skills.
• Good understanding of REST APIs, system design, and distributed/microservices architecture (including event-driven systems).
• Hands-on experience with databases (SQL/NoSQL), including schema design, query optimization, and production support.
• Proven experience with AWS cloud services, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure as code (Terraform/CDK).
• Strong problem-solving, debugging, and performance optimization skills across the full stack.
• Demonstrated leadership skills with experience in mentoring, design reviews, and delivering complex solutions in Agile teams.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, Software Engineering, or a related field. 
• 8+ years of professional experience in full-stack software development, including at least 2+ years in a tech lead or senior IC role driving architectural decisions. 
• Proven experience designing and delivering scalable, production-grade applications on AWS or similar cloud platforms.
• Strong foundation in system design, microservices, and event-driven architectures.

Desired Qualifications:

• Hands-on experience with modern development practices such as CI/CD, automated testing, and infrastructure as code.
• Demonstrated ability to lead technical initiatives, mentor engineers, and drive best engineering practices.
• Excellent problem-solving, debugging, and performance optimization skills.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with experience working in Agile/SCRUM environments.
• Exposure to domains like AgTech, IoT, geospatial, or supply chain is a plus.
