About the role: 

Reporting to the Senior Specialist, Regulatory Approvals, the Lead, Regulatory Approvals is responsible for directing and managing the Social, Environmental, and Regulatory Approvals (SERA) component of major projects. You will be leading complex projects from the development of strategic permitting plans, building solutions to emerging issues, to preparing and supporting review of applications.

To be successful, we are looking for someone with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, who is skilled at building and maintaining relationships in a dynamic environment. The ability to lead a team of consultants and direct reports, and collaborate with partners, including government officials, Indigenous groups, and communities of interest is critical. The successful candidate would be a motivated self-starter, have strong technical writing skills, and a solid understanding of how environmental disciplines relate to one another through impact assessment.

  • ### In this role you will:
  • Participate in and adhere to health and safety programs and policies
  • Establish and implement regulatory approvals and engagement strategies
  • Manage the work of multi-disciplinary consulting teams including environmental baseline programs, impact assessments, and related budget, scope management, and schedule
  • Lead the development of regulatory approvals applications, including inputs to project scoping and prefeasibility studies, identifying SERA risks and strategies to mitigate risks, setting direction for application content, holding external pre-application meetings, mine review committee meetings, and managing the preparation of the applications
  • Build and maintain respectful, long-term relationships with participating Indigenous Nations and regulators as the regulatory point-of-contact
  • Cultivate a culture of strong integration and collaboration with mine operations, project engineering teams, and subject matter experts
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to align regulatory strategy with project value drivers and other initiatives across the organization
  • Provide briefings to the SERA Advisory Group and Project Board members
  • ### Requirements:
  • Degree in Biology, Aquatic Sciences, Water Resources, Engineering, Environmental Science, Geography or a related field
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in in regulatory approvals, impact assessment, and project management in the natural resource sector, preferably in mining
  • Strong digital literacy using Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Word
  • Specific knowledge and experience with permitting under the following B.C. legislation is an asset: Mines Act, Water Sustainability Act, Environmental Management Act, and Forest Act
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License or equivalent
  • The actual base salary offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
