Salary: NHS Band 8a - £57,528 - £64,750

Come and Join our specialist Breast Care team an opportunity has arisen for an experienced and motivated Advanced Practitioner in Breast Imaging to join our specialist Breast Care team at Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust.
This role offers the chance to work at an advanced clinical level across breast ultrasound, mammographic image interpretation, and interventional procedures, contributing to a high-quality, patient-focused diagnostic service.
You will be a key member of the multidisciplinary team, supporting early diagnosis and improving outcomes for patients, while also contributing to service development, audit, and education.
Main duties of the job
- Perform and report advanced breast imaging examinations, including ultrasound and mammography
- Independently interpret screening and symptomatic mammograms in line with NHSBSP standards
- Undertake breast interventional procedures and provide expert clinical input
- Participate in and contribute to multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings
- Provide clinical supervision, teaching, and support to trainees and junior staff
- Communicate complex and sensitive information to patients with compassion and professionalism
- Lead and participate in audit, research, and quality improvement activities
- Ensure compliance with IR(ME)R regulations, national guidelines, and Trust policies
The successful candidate will act as an independent practitioner, delivering a specialised breast imaging service. Responsibilities include:
- Advanced clinical practice in breast ultrasound, mammography, and image-guided interventions
- Independent reporting of symptomatic and screening mammograms
- Supporting patient pathways through effective MDT collaboration
- Supervising staff and contributing to workforce development
- Maintaining high standards of clinical governance, audit, and CPD
- Ensuring accurate use of systems including PACS and NBSS
- Supporting service efficiency, patient safety, and continuous

Qualifications
Essential
- Completed MSc modules in Breast Ultrasound, Interventional Procedures and Mammographic Image Interpretation
- Degree or Diploma in Radiography (diagnostic or therapeutic)
- Hold a current HCPC registration for radiographer
- Post graduate award in Mammography
Experience
Essential
- Post graduate experience
- Evidence or plans for CPD
Desirable
- Extended clinical role or management training
Skills and Knowledge
- High levels of concentration required
- Demonstrate co-ordination and sensory skills required for precise positioning of patients with narrow margin for error
- Speed and accuracy
- Understanding of current Ionising Radiation Regulations (2017) and Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposures) Regulations (2017)
- Demonstrate specialized keyboard skills required for image manipulation
