About the role:

Reporting to the Lead Occupational Hygienist, the Coordinator, Health and Hygiene is responsible for maintaining and implementing exposure reduction strategies as a part of the Occupational Health and Hygiene program at our Fording River Operations.

To be successful, we are looking for someone with outstanding interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills, who can influence partners at all levels and areas of the organization. The successful candidate has strong problem-solving abilities, who can prioritize workloads, and keep organized and accurate records. We also require someone who is analytical and adaptable, with a passion for continuous improvement.

  • ### In this role you will:
  • Participate in and adhere to health and safety programs and policies
  • Conduct workplace hazard assessments to identify potential health risks related to chemical, physical, biological and ergonomic hazards
  • Conduct worker and workplace occupational hygiene sampling and maintain inventory of hygiene sampling equipment and supplies
  • Manage day-to-day aspects of occupational hygiene programs including but not limited to respirator fit testing, gas monitoring station maintenance, audiometric testing, ergonomic risk assessments
  • Record and report sampling results and recommend control measures
  • Provide mentorship, technical training, and informational presentations to improve knowledge of employees and management awareness of occupational health and hygiene concerns and programs
  • Implement exposure controls through the Exposure Treatment Plan to reduce risk to high risk hazards
  • Maintain a constructive relationship with regulatory agencies and applicable associations on occupational health and hygiene matters
  • Keep informed on new developments in the field of occupational hygiene and health and safety legislation
  • ### Requirements:
  • Degree or Diploma in health and safety or a science related field of study such as chemistry, biology, or environmental science
  • Registered Occupational Hygiene Technologist designation, or willingness to work towards, registered with the Canadian Registration Board of Occupational Hygienists, or equivalent
  • Strong digital literacy, particularly with the Microsoft Office Suite®
  • Experience related to the control of occupational exposures in mining or heavy industry is an asset
  • The actual base salary offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
