Job Description

As Senior Intraday Trader, you will play a key role in strengthening and further developing our proprietary short-term trading setup in Germany. The role combines hands-on proprietary trading in the German day-ahead and intraday power markets with a meaningful contribution to how this trading activity is further developed and organised within Statkraft.

The role is not part of the regular 24/7 shift rota. However, some flexibility to support trading activities outside standard weekday hours, including occasional daytime coverage on weekends, is expected and compensated.

As a Senior Intraday Trader, within the Intraday Germany team, you will:

  • Actively trade proprietary day-ahead and intraday positions in the German power market with a high degree of ownership, judgement, and commercial discipline.
  • Help strengthen and further develop discretionary trading in the German short-term power markets, including manual trading decisions and execution in relevant market situations.
  • Contribute to the development, monitoring, and refinement of systematic strategies and data-driven trading approaches for the German market.
  • Identify trading opportunities across relevant short-term market timeframes and market constellations, and translate them into concrete trading decisions and structured follow-up.
  • Use data and coding to support market analysis, performance monitoring, and the ongoing improvement of trading approaches.
  • Help strengthen the overall setup for proprietary short-term trading in Germany, including priorities, decision quality, structured follow-up, and knowledge transfer.
  • Work closely with colleagues in our German intraday team and neighbouring functions to ensure alignment, knowledge sharing, and efficient build-up of capabilities.
  • Provide structured market insights that supports both proprietary trading activities and the wider German intraday setup.

Qualifications

We are looking for a highly capable trader with the experience and skills to help strengthen this setup. In particular, we would value the following:

Mandatory qualifications:

  • Proven hands-on track record in proprietary day-ahead and intraday power trading, ideally with deep exposure to the German power market.
  • Strong understanding of short-term market behaviour, trading mechanics, and discretionary decision-making in fast-moving environments.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills, with the ability to contribute across both systematic and discretionary trading contexts.
  • Strong coding skills, ideally in Python, and confidence using data and code to analyse markets, monitor performance, and improve trading approaches.
  • Ability to combine hands-on trading with structured thinking, clear prioritisation, and disciplined follow-up.
  • Ability and motivation to help strengthen and further build a focused proprietary trading setup, not just perform within it.
  • Strong ownership, credibility, and impact as a very capable individual contributor in a small, specialised team environment.
  • Fluent English communication skills.

Additional qualifications

  • Experience in proprietary trading across other European short-term power markets.
  • Ability to bring in new market perspectives, challenge existing approaches constructively, and help raise the overall level of the setup.
  • German language skills are beneficial, but not required.
