WHAT'S THE JOB?
The Sous Chef is responsible for preparing necessary daily production and assembling meals in a family-style format for service. The individual will support the Chef Manager with daily food production, service, ordering, inventory management, and staff training.
This is a short-term contract between June-August, requiring the individual to remain at the lodge for the full duration. All travel, accommodations, meals, snacks and beverages are provided.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supporting the Chef Manager with daily food production, service, ordering, inventory management, and staff training
- Preparation of soups, sandwiches, pastas, eggs (both poached and fried), proteins, baking and filleting and cooking of fish
- Adherence to all food safety standards, ensuring proper handling, storage, and sanitation of ingredients and equipment
- Monitoring and recording temperatures for food items, as well as logging all necessary information to maintain compliance with health and safety regulations
Physical Demands:
- Lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 lbs
- Climb ladders and stairs
- Stand, walk, squat, kneel or sit according to task for extended lengths of time
- Perform repetitive hand work requiring full use of both hands
- Work with arms above shoulder height
Qualifications
WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in the food service industry
- Valid Food Safety certification is required
- Possess strong leadership abilities, exceptional knife skills, and a robust skill set in cooking from scratch in large volumes
- Ability and desire to work independently with minimal supervision, and as a team player
- Computer literacy, including proficiency in MS Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Adobe software
- Capacity to stand for long periods of time, able to lift, carry, and move heavy items, such as pots, pans, cases of ingredients
- Experience and knowledge of inventory management and weekly food ordering
- Passion for the outdoors with the ability to commit to the full duration of the work term while remaining at the lodge for the full duration
- Ability to successfully complete a Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC) level 3

Work schedule and remuneration:
Maintenance Technicians work on a rotational schedule of 3 weeks on/3 weeks off in Nunavut. The site location is a remote setting, requiring air travel to site. The selected candidate must have the ability to provide own transportation to Edmonton, for travel to site. You may be required to work nights, weekdays, weekends, and general holidays. Wages are paid on an hourly basis with a starting rate of $38.00 per hour. Group benefits are included upon the date of hire. Occasional travel may be required to different camp sites within the region.
