Responsible for the safe and efficient movement of trailers within the yard, dock areas, and designated locations. This includes staging trailers for loading/unloading, performing yard checks, and ensuring accurate trailer placement to support plant and warehouse operations.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Description
- Operate a yard truck (yard dog/terminal tractor) to move trailers to and from loading docks, staging areas, and designated yard locations in a safe and efficient manner.
- Perform trailer spotting, docking, and re-positioning to support shipping and production schedules.
- Conduct routine yard checks to verify trailer locations, seal integrity, and trailer readiness; report discrepancies to supervisor.
- Inspect trailers and yard truck before and after use; report maintenance or safety issues immediately.
- Communicate with warehouse, shipping, and receiving teams to coordinate trailer movements and priorities.
- Ensure trailers are properly secured (chocked, locked, and sealed where applicable) and in correct dock positions.
- Maintain accurate records of trailer movements, yard inventory, and activity logs using company systems (e.g., SAP, Excel).
- Assist with loading/unloading operations when needed, including use of forklifts or pallet jacks.
- Follow all company safety policies, DOT regulations (if applicable), and yard traffic rules.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of yard areas to ensure safe operations.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Valid Driver’s License & clean driving record required
- Minimum three (3) months of related driving, yard, or warehouse experience
- Ability to safely operate yard trucks and perform trailer maneuvers

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Regularly required to sit, stand, and operate vehicle controls
- Frequent walking, climbing in/out of yard truck, and coupling/uncoupling trailers
- Occasional bending, crouching, kneeling, and reaching
- Ability to lift a minimum of ten (10) lbs
- Vision requirements include close vision, depth perception, and ability to focus
- Work environment includes exposure to moving mechanical parts, loud noise, and varying outdoor conditions
