Medical Assistant

The Medical Assistant provides virtual clinical and administrative support for evolvedMD’s psychiatric med management program. This role is critical in ensuring patients receive timely, coordinated care by managing virtual triage, prior authorizations, prescription coordination, and appointment scheduling. Working closely with Psychiatric Consultants, and Clinical Operations team, the Medical Assistant enables providers to focus on delivering high-quality psychiatric care by handling essential non-clinical workflows. This is a fast-paced, execution-focused role ideal for a detail-oriented, proactive individual who thrives in a fully remote environment.

Location

This is a remote position based in Arizona.

Compensation

  • Hourly rate $18 - $22.50 per hour (DOE)
  • $1,200annual technology allowance
  • 401(k) company match up to 3%

Key Responsibilities

Virtual Triage & Patient Support

  • Serve as a primary point of contact for patient calls and portal messages.
  • Provide virtual support for patient questions, appointment needs, and general patient follow-up.
  • Collect and route lab results, outside records, and other patient information for provider review.

Prior Authorization & Insurance Coordination

  • Submit and track prior authorizations for psychiatric medications.
  • Verify insurance eligibility and help resolve medication coverage issues with payers, pharmacies, and internal teams.
  • Prepare patients for virtual visits by confirming demographic and insurance information needed.

Prescription & Medication Coordination

  • Support prescription refill requests and prepare items for provider review.
  • Coordinate with pharmacies on medication questions, clarifications, and follow-up needs.

Scheduling & Patient Coordination

  • Schedule new and follow-up appointments and help maintain provider calendars.
  • Manage appointment reminders, cancellations, reschedules, and follow-up communication.

Documentation & Administrative Support

  • Maintain accurate documentation in the electronic health record and related systems.
  • Track outstanding tasks, manage work queues, and organize inbound documents.
  • Follow established workflows, escalation pathways, and confidentiality standards.

Competencies

  • Clinical Acumen: Demonstrates a strong understanding of basic medical terminology, psychiatric medication workflows, and common ambulatory support processes in order to accurately triage patient needs, escalate clinical concerns appropriately, and support safe, timely care coordination.
  • Operational Discipline: Maintains accuracy, organization, and follow-through across high-volume administrative workflows, including prior authorizations, refill coordination, scheduling, and documentation, while consistently meeting deadlines and maintaining compliance with internal procedures.
  • Patient-Centered Communication: Communicates clearly, professionally, and empathetically with patients, caregivers, providers, pharmacies, and payers, helping patients feel supported while ensuring information is conveyed accurately and efficiently in a virtual environment.
  • Collaboration: Works effectively across interdisciplinary teams, partnering closely with care teams to keep patient care workflows moving smoothly and resolve issues quickly.
  • Initiative & Adaptability: Takes ownership of assigned tasks, anticipates needs, and adapts quickly to changing priorities, provider preferences, and patient volume in a fast-paced remote setting with a high degree of accountability and independence.

Qualifications

  • Current Medical Assistant certification required.
  • Training, education or experience in behavioral health, psychiatric services, or ambulatory care is a plus.
  • 1–3 years of experience as a medical assistant.
  • Familiarity with EHR systems, clinical workflows, and integrated care models a plus.
  • Strong attention to detail, sound judgment, and the ability to manage multiple priorities are essential.
  • Comfortable with virtual patient platforms, utilizing telephone, text, messaging, and video visit software
