Opportunity Overview
Northramp is seeking a Cloud Systems Engineer (Senior) to join the team supporting the client's Cloud BPA Bridge program — a mission-critical effort to consolidate, modernize, and operate client's enterprise cloud services across IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS environments under FedRAMP High authorization.
You will lead the design, deployment, and ongoing management of cloud infrastructure and services on AWS, Azure, and GCP in support of client's Cloud BPA Bridge program. The role is pivotal to cloud strategy execution, performance optimization, security compliance, and the development of junior team members.
This role is part of Northramp's integrated delivery model, where engineers and advisors work as one team to bring sound judgment, disciplined execution, and deep federal experience to high-stakes modernization programs.
Location & Work Arrangement
Hybrid, based in the Washington, DC metro area. On-site presence at designated client locations is expected on a cadence aligned to program needs. Remote work is supported around mission and security requirements. This role is not open to candidates outside the DC region.
The Ideal Candidate
You have led large-scale cloud builds in production federal environments, you have written and operated IaC at scale, and you have run security audits and remediation against FedRAMP and DHS controls. You make technical decisions you can defend, mentor the people around you, and operate with low ego and high accountability.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design and implementation of complex cloud-based architectures on AWS, Azure, and GCP, ensuring scalability, reliability, and security.
- Develop and oversee Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices using Terraform, Ansible, and Python to automate and manage cloud infrastructure.
- Act as a senior technical liaison with Cloud Service Providers (CSPs) for strategic partnerships, issue resolution, and feature requests.
- Guide the conceptual design of cloud infrastructure and provide expert support to development teams deploying scalable cloud applications and services.
- Create, manage, and optimize custom OS and application images to meet organizational needs and performance standards.
- Lead automation initiatives for system and application configurations to enhance operational efficiency and reliability.
- Lead security audits, compliance assessments, and remediation efforts to maintain a robust and secure cloud environment.
- Provide mentorship and technical leadership to internal teams and customers; foster continuous learning and improvement.
- Troubleshoot complex issues across cross-functional teams to minimize downtime and service interruptions.
- Conduct in-depth analysis of system performance and usage metrics; recommend and implement strategic improvements.
- Oversee escalation support to ensure critical operational issues are resolved promptly.
- Manage and mentor junior engineers and technical staff; set technical direction and support professional growth.
- Drive research and evaluation of emerging cloud technologies, tools, and practices for potential adoption.
Requirements
Required Qualifications
- 7–10 years of progressive, hands-on experience in designing, deploying, and managing cloud infrastructure across AWS, Azure, and GCP.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Information Systems Management, or a related technical field. Significant professional experience may substitute for formal education.
- Strong expertise in AWS, Azure, and GCP cloud environments, including architecture, security, and compliance.
- Mastery of IaC tools (Terraform, Ansible, Python).
- Comprehensive knowledge of Agile and Scrum, with an emphasis on DevOps culture.
- Proficiency in CI/CD pipeline architecture and management; experience with software development and version control systems.
- Advanced understanding of networking, IP networking concepts, and cloud security best practices.
- Exceptional analytical and troubleshooting skills; capable of leading complex technical investigations.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and mentorship abilities.
- U.S. Citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a DHS suitability / Public Trust clearance.
Desired Qualifications
- Advanced AWS, Azure, or GCP certifications.
- Security certifications such as Security+, CISSP, or CCSP.
- DHS, or other federal program experience.
- Active Public Trust or higher clearance.
Clearance
DHS suitability and a Public Trust background investigation are required for this role. Active Public Trust or higher clearance is preferred. Selected applicants will be subject to a security investigation and may need to meet eligibility requirements for access to controlled or classified information.
