Occupational Therapist (NDIS) - Brisbane

Posted about 2 months ago

OfficeBrisbane, Queensland, Australia

Proactive Health is a national network of over 40 allied health businesses with 450+ locations across Australia. We support independent clinic owners to deliver exceptional, person-centred care — connecting them to the clinical governance, professional development, and operational systems that let small practices punch well above their weight.

The model is built on genuine multidisciplinary care. Our occupational therapists work within teams that include physiotherapists, exercise physiologists, podiatrists, dietitians, and social workers — meaning you're not just referring sideways and hoping for the best. You're part of real clinical conversations that lead to coordinated, meaningful care.

Our clinics work across DVA, Medicare, NDIS, Home Care Packages, private health, and workers' compensation — giving our OTs a breadth of work that keeps the role stimulating and your clinical thinking evolving.

About This Clinic — Brisbane

Brisbane is Queensland's capital and Australia's third-largest city — a subtropical metropolis that has evolved rapidly into one of the country's most liveable urban centres. The NDIS market in Brisbane is substantial and growing, with a large participant base and a genuine need for skilled OTs who can deliver quality, participant-centred care.

This role focuses on NDIS-funded occupational therapy across the greater Brisbane region. You'll work with participants across a wide range of disabilities — physical, psychosocial, intellectual, and neurological — providing functional assessments, assistive technology prescription, home modifications, capacity building programs, and support coordination. The metropolitan setting means you'll have access to a broad referral network and the opportunity to specialise in areas that interest you.

George Gummow leads the clinical direction and has built a framework that supports OTs to deliver high-quality NDIS care without the administrative burden that often accompanies it. The Proactive Health network provides clinical governance, supervision, and mentorship, and the Brisbane MDT means genuine collaboration with EPs, physios, and podiatrists. For an OT who wants to work in NDIS in a capital city with exceptional lifestyle — Brisbane is hard to look past.

Why This Role Is Different

Occupational therapy in a multidisciplinary private practice gives you something most OT roles can't — clinical variety with clinical support. You won't be working in a silo. When you're assessing a veteran for home modifications, the physio on your team already knows their movement profile. When you're developing a functional capacity plan for an NDIS participant, the EP can tell you what they're managing on the exercise side. That's the difference between isolated practice and integrated care — and it changes the quality of what you can deliver.

Veteran and disability services are a core part of our work — and where some of the most meaningful occupational therapy happens. You’ll support clients across DVA and NDIS with functional assessments, home modification recommendations, assistive technology prescription, chronic pain and fatigue management, capacity building, and strategies to improve independence and participation in everyday life. Many of the people we work with present with complex, multi-layered physical, psychosocial, and neurological conditions, giving you the opportunity to deliver highly individualised and clinically rewarding care.

You’ll also gain exposure across a broad caseload including Medicare, Home Care Packages, private clients, and workers’ compensation — working with individuals across the lifespan, from paediatric developmental support through to aged care, workplace rehabilitation, and neurological recovery. This diversity provides strong clinical variety, ongoing learning opportunities, and the chance to develop a well-rounded occupational therapy skill set.

What Your Week Actually Looks Like

One morning you might be conducting a comprehensive home assessment for a DVA client — evaluating their living environment, recommending modifications, and prescribing assistive equipment. After lunch, you're in clinic working with an NDIS participant on daily living skills and goal-setting. Later, you're reviewing a workers' compensation functional capacity evaluation, catching up with the physio about a shared patient's progress, and joining a team case discussion about a complex aged care client.

Day-to-day, you'll be:

  • Conducting comprehensive functional assessments across home, clinic, and community environments
  • Developing individualised intervention plans focused on functional independence, safety, and quality of life
  • Assessing for and prescribing assistive technology, home modifications, and adaptive equipment
  • Managing a diverse caseload across DVA, NDIS, Medicare (EPC), Home Care Packages, private, and workers' compensation
  • Delivering interventions addressing daily living activities, community participation, cognitive function, pain management, and return-to-work goals
  • Collaborating with physiotherapists, EPs, podiatrists, dietitians, social workers, GPs, and external providers
  • Writing detailed assessment reports, recommendations, and funding applications (including NDIS reports and DVA documentation)
  • Contributing to multidisciplinary case reviews and clinical team discussions

What You'll Get From Us — Beyond the Salary

  • Dedicated mentorship — including access to Proactive Health's Head of Occupational Therapy and experienced OTs across the network
  • The Proactive Health Academy — professional development partnerships that keep your skills sharp and your CPD sorted
  • Graduate and Leadership Programs — structured development pathways for OTs at every career stage, from new graduate through to clinic ownership
  • Clinical governance that supports you — supervision frameworks, quality assurance, peer review, and clear clinical standards
  • The Hot Tub rewards program — staff discounts across major retailers plus wellbeing centre access
  • Career progression that's real — senior OT, team lead, clinical manager, clinic owner. People have built these careers within Proactive Health.

Requirements

  • AHPRA registration as an Occupational Therapist (or eligibility for registration)
  • A recognised tertiary qualification in Occupational Therapy
  • Current professional indemnity insurance (or willingness to obtain)
  • A valid Australian driver's licence and access to a reliable vehicle
  • Current or willingness to obtain a National Police Check, NDIS Worker Screening Check, and other relevant screening
  • Strong functional assessment, clinical reasoning, and report-writing skills
  • Excellent communication skills — you'll work closely with clients, families, carers, and a wide range of health professionals
  • The ability to work autonomously in community settings while contributing to a collaborative MDT

Highly regarded but not essential:

  • Experience with NDIS participants, plan reviews, and NDIS documentation
  • Competency in home modification assessment, assistive technology prescription, or functional capacity evaluation
  • Experience across aged care, paediatrics, neurological rehabilitation, or chronic pain management
  • Prior experience in private practice or community-based OT

Benefits

  • Competitive salary package — discussed at interview based on experience but well above market rate.
  • Broad, stimulating caseload spanning DVA, NDIS, Medicare, Home Care, private, and workers' compensation
  • Sustainable workloads — quality over quantity, always
  • Mentorship and clinical leadership from Proactive Health's OT team
  • Access to the Proactive Health Academy for professional development
  • Structured Graduate Program or Leadership Program
  • Clear career pathways — senior OT, clinical lead, management, or clinic ownership
  • Staff rewards program and wellbeing centre access
  • A genuinely collaborative multidisciplinary team
  • Private practice independence with the backing of a national network
