Job Description

Position Summary:

We are seeking a strategic and analytically minded IP professional to join our team as an IP Analyst for Technology & Insights. In this role, you will be at the intersection of intellectual property, technology, and business strategy. You will leverage your deep expertise in patent analysis, augmented by modern data and AI tools, to deliver actionable intelligence that guides our R&D, legal, and business decisions. You are a strategic partner who transforms IP data into a competitive advantage.

Key Responsibilities:

IP Analytics & Strategic Insights:

  • Conduct comprehensive patent landscape, whitespace, and freedom-to-operate (FTO) analyses to identify innovation trends, partnership opportunities, and potential risks.
  • Analyze competitor patent portfolios to deliver strategic intelligence, mapping their R&D focus and predicting future product direction.
  • Utilize advanced search methodologies, including semantic and concept-based searching, to perform complex prior art and validity/invalidity investigations.
  • Collaborate with IP attorneys and R&D teams to interpret analytical results, providing data-driven recommendations for IP strategy and risk mitigation.
  • Design and build interactive dashboards (e.g., in Tableau/Power BI) to allow stakeholders to explore IP intelligence in real-time.

IP Technology & Process Enhancement:

  • Leverage your programming skills (primarily Python) to automate and enhance IP workflows, from data ingestion via APIs to final analysis.
  • Apply modern AI tools, including Generative AI (e.g., via APIs to Claude/GPT), to assist in summarizing and classifying large volumes of patent documents efficiently.
  • Prototype and support the business teams with custom scripting and building analytical models.
  • Serve as the in-house expert for our suite of IP technologies, evaluating new tools and championing the adoption of best practices across the team.
  •        Experience in combining IP data with business data (e.g. technology road maps, product road maps, strategy reports, financial statements, etc.)

Qualifications

Educational qualification:

  • Master’s degree in a technical field (e.g., Engineering, Physics, Computer Science) is required.

Experience :

  • 3-5+ years in a dedicated IP role such as Patent Analyst, IP Consultant, or Patent Search Specialist.
  • Demonstrated, hands-on expertise in conducting patent searches (landscaping, FTO, prior art) and, most importantly, analyzing the results to provide clear strategic advice.
  • Experience with professional IP intelligence tools (e.g., Questel Orbit, PatBase, Derwent Innovation, etc.).
  • Deep understanding of the patent lifecycle and patent law fundamentals.
  • A degree or formal certification in Intellectual Property (e.g. QPIP, WON, etc.,) is a significant advantage.

Technical Proficiencies (Required):

  • Data Analysis & Scripting: Strong proficiency in Python and its core data science libraries.
  • Databases: Solid understanding of SQL for querying structured data (e.g. Databricks).
  • Data Visualization: Proven experience creating clear and impactful reports and dashboards using visualization tools like Tableau or Power BI.
  • Generative AI Integration: Familiarity with connecting data to large language models (LLMs) via APIs to create sophisticated Q&A or summarization tools (i.e., Retrieval-Augmented Generation).

Advanced & Desirable Skills (optional)

  • Advanced Data Structures: Exposure to graph databases (e.g., Neo4j) for analyzing citation networks or vector databases for enabling semantic search.
  • Automation & Ingestion: Experience with building automated data pipelines to gather and process IP data.
