An Environmental Specialist job is available with the City of Fort Worth Environmental Services Department. The Air Monitoring Team performs program-critical functions in conjunction with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to aid and assist in their implementation and continued operation of the TCEQ’s state-wide Ambient Air Monitoring Network and DHS’s nation-wide BioWatch Program.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, or other field related to the Natural Sciences OR individuals with at least two years of responsible experience in state or federally-regulated environmental programs
  • Possession of a valid Class “C” driver’s license

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with State and Federal Air Quality Monitoring functions and criteria
  • Experience with mechanical and/or electrical component repair and maintenance
  • Competence in the use of current office computer applications, including word processing, email, time management, spreadsheets, and presentation software
  • Understanding of the fundamentals of Air Quality Science and Air Pollutant Emission Monitoring

The Environmental Specialist job responsibilities include:

  • The proper installation and collection of sample filters within a precise, established schedule
  • Conveyance of sample filters via established protocols
  • Prompt upkeep, maintenance, and repair of sampling monitors and gaseous analyzers, and the monitoring sites
  • Calibrations, Quality Assurance Audits, and data reporting
  • Computer application support
  • Giving administrative support to supervisory-level colleagues
  • Participating in 24-hour, on-call emergency response services
  • Other duties as assigned
