Job Description
Dateline NBC is seeking an experienced Producer to develop, report, and produce longform investigative and true crime stories for broadcast, streaming, and digital platforms. Working closely with correspondents, senior producers, editors, legal teams, and production staff, the Producer will play a key role in all phases of production—from story development and reporting through scripting, field production, editing, and post-production.
The ideal candidate is a strong journalist and storyteller with exceptional editorial judgment, strong organizational skills, and a passion for investigative reporting and true crime programming.
Responsibilities:
- Develop, research, and produce original longform stories for Dateline NBC.
- Conduct extensive reporting, including interviews with sources, attorneys, law enforcement officials, experts, and key stakeholders.
- Identify, cultivate, and maintain relationships with sources and potential interview subjects.
- Write and edit scripts, teases, and promotional materials.
- Collaborate with correspondents to shape story structure and editorial direction.
- Plan and oversee field shoots, including interviews, as well as character and location b-roll.
- Work closely with editors to craft visually compelling, accurate, and engaging stories.
- Review court records, legal filings, police reports, and other source materials to verify facts and support reporting.
- Coordinate with Standards, Legal, and Rights & Clearances teams to ensure compliance with NBC News policies and practices.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting production deadlines.
- Contribute story ideas and editorial updates as cases develop.
- Collaborate with digital, streaming, audio and promotional teams to extend storytelling across platforms.
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of experience producing longform news, documentary, investigative, or true crime programming.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience.
- Demonstrated experience reporting, researching, and producing complex stories.
- Experience managing productions and production budgets from development through post-production.
- Strong writing and storytelling skills.
- Experience conducting interviews with victims, families, attorneys, and law enforcement personnel, and on sensitive subject matter.
- Must be willing to travel domestically as needed.
- Must be willing to work in New York, NY or Los Angeles, CA.

- Familiarity with broadcast journalism guidelines, standards and ethics.
Additional Job Requirements:
- Hybrid: This position requires contributing from the office a minimum of four days per week when not in the field. The Company reserves the right to change in-office requirements at any time.

Salary range: $115,000 - $165,000
