Job Description

Location: KIPP Impact Academy

KIPP Jacksonville Public Schools seeks middle school teachers for our fifth through eighth grade classrooms in the 2026- 2027 school year.

This integrated middle school Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) course engages students in the study of physical science through the exciting lens of robotics and engineering design. The STEM lab instructor will run their own classroom of students as part of the specials block of the school day. They will see every student across the middle school grade levels. Students apply concepts from science, mathematics, and English Language Arts (ELA) to solve authentic engineering challenges using the science and engineering practices. Robotics serves as the primary context for exploring physical science concepts, while introducing students to mechanical systems, electrical circuits, programming, automation, aeronautics, and other engineering disciplines.

Throughout the course, students design, build, test, and refine robotic systems while investigating fundamental physical science principles such as force and motion, energy, electricity, magnetism, and simple machines. Hands-on laboratory investigations and engineering design challenges are central to the learning experience, allowing students to develop critical thinking, collaboration, communication, and problem-solving skills.

In alignment with the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA), students participate in multiple laboratory and engineering investigations each week. These experiences encourage learners to interact directly with scientific phenomena, collect and analyze data, use appropriate laboratory tools and technologies, and apply the engineering design process to solve real-world problems. Students learn to conduct investigations safely, evaluate measurement accuracy, troubleshoot equipment, interpret experimental results, and communicate evidence-based conclusions.

By integrating robotics with physical science, this course prepares students to think like engineers and innovators while building the foundational STEM knowledge and technical skills needed for success in future science, engineering, computer science, and technology pathways.

Please note that fifth grade is considered part of our middle school model.

All teachers are responsible for creating a positive environment for their students, implementing and/or creating curriculum, assessing students, building relationships with our families, collaborating with their team and other duties as assigned. Full teacher responsibilities are ultimately outlined by their School Leader.

OUR CURRENT MODEL

The specials schedule is subject to change and can vary from school to school. The specials team consists of up to seven teachers for the entire school, depending on the size of the school. Each specials teacher instructs students across multiple grade levels.

Depending on the specials area subject, the teacher may travel to classrooms or have students transition to their own classroom space. Class size is typically ~26 students and typically a teacher will see a class about twice per week in a given rotation.
