We are looking for a Translation Specialist (Chemistry) to join our talented Content team in Clarivate, Penang, Malaysia. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the Derwent Patent Search product by applying your subject matter expertise in areas such as biomedical science, chemistry, or related scientific fields. In this role, you will review, improve, and proofread machine-translated Chinese-to-English patent content, support translation quality checks and benchmarking against quality standards, and help improve translation resources and machine translation output to ensure our patent content is accurate, consistent, relevant, and up to date.
Accurate patent content helps customers access reliable information, make better research and intellectual property decisions, and develop innovations that address real-world challenges.

- Excellent reading and writing skills in Mandarin, with excellent reading, speaking, and writing skills in English.
- A degree in biotechnology, chemistry, biomedical science, or a related scientific field; a master’s or advanced degree is preferred.
- Problem-solving and continuous improvement mindset, with the ability to identify issues, propose practical improvements, and support ongoing process and language quality enhancement.
- Strong analytical, data analysis, and presentation skills, with the ability to use tools such as Microsoft Excel, Power BI, and PowerPoint to draw insights, communicate findings, and support quality and workflow improvement.
- AI literacy and automation skills, with the ability to apply relevant tools to improve translation quality, productivity, and workflow efficiency.

- Prior experience as a linguist, translator, or post-editor in Chinese-to-English content translation.
- Experience maintaining translation memory databases, which store approved translations for reuse, as well as glossaries, terminology databases, and master dictionaries used to improve translation accuracy and consistency.
- Exposure to machine translation engine quality benchmarking, which means evaluating translation output against quality standards, translation quality evaluation, or data-driven quality reporting.
- Experience supporting continuous improvement initiatives, process enhancement, or automation in translation workflows.
What will you be doing in this role?
You will help ensure Chinese-to-English patent content is accurate, consistent, and useful, enabling customers to access reliable information for research, intellectual property, and innovation decisions.
- Conduct quality checks and benchmarking reviews on Chinese-to-English patent translation output to identify content requiring human review and improvement.
- Analyze machine translation performance and benchmarking data, draw actionable insights, and prepare reports to support quality, workflow, and stakeholder decisions.
- Review, validate, and maintain translation memory databases, which store approved translations for reuse, as well as glossaries, terminology databases, and master dictionaries to improve translation accuracy and consistency.
- Perform quality assurance checks on translated patent content, including full text, trademarks, and other relevant content types.
- Manage customer cases and operational requests related to translation quality or patent content review.
- Provide analysis, feedback, and recommendations to internal teams and external vendors to support continuous improvement of translation quality, automation, and workflow efficiency.
- Maintain guidelines, workflow documentation, and best practice materials to support consistent quality, knowledge sharing, and adoption of improved processes.
- Share knowledge, best practices, and quality insights with peers to support individual, peer, and team growth across translation workflows.
- Support other reasonable duties and team priorities as needed, whether on a permanent or temporary basis.

The Chinese Translation Specialist team provides high-quality support for reviewing and improving machine-translated Chinese patent content, as well as maintaining translation resources for Chemistry and Engineering technology areas.
