Principal EC&I Engineer (Electrical HV bias)

Job Description

The client Design Authority undertakes a vital role in ensuring that key defence infrastructure is safe and fit for purpose. 

We are looking for an Electrical Engineer experienced in High Voltage (HV) to support the technical capability of the Design Authority. This role will be suited to engineers with experience in HV Electrical Design, although candidates experienced in HV Electrical Installation or Maintenance are also welcomed.

TASKS

Working from HMNB Clyde, key responsibilities will include:

• Technical excellence in the specification, production and assessment of design packages for infrastructure.
• Specification of reliability and operational constraints for infrastructure. 
• Assessment of work control procedures for maintenance of infrastructure. 
• Assessment of infrastructure design, material state, qualification and ageing mechanisms to permit the continued operation of facilities and utilities. 
• Discharge and display a robust safety and security culture. 
• Ensure outputs of safety related contracts meet the contract requirements and appropriate safety requirements by acting as an intelligent customer.

Qualifications

✅ What We're Looking For:

Essential

• ⚡ Broad electrical engineering experience, with knowledge of power distribution networks, diesel alternators, substations, switching arrangements, protection & control schemes, and earthing & bonding systems.
• ☢️ Experience within the nuclear sector or another highly regulated/high-hazard industry is desirable but not essential.
• 💡 Ability to develop practical, innovative, and cost-effective engineering solutions for plant and infrastructure modifications.
• 📐 Good understanding of British and international engineering design standards.
• 📊 Strong analytical skills with the ability to make evidence-based decisions using a range of technical data.
• 💬 Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with stakeholders.
• 📅 Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage and prioritise your workload effectively.

🎓 Qualifications & Experience

Essential

• 🎓 HNC (or equivalent qualification/experience) in a relevant engineering discipline.
• ⚡ Detailed knowledge of the design intent for electrical infrastructure within the nuclear sector or a similar highly regulated environment.

⭐ Desirable

• 👷 Incorporated Engineer (IEng) status or equivalent professional experience.
• 🎓 Degree (or equivalent qualification/experience) in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.

Umbrella contractor or permanent staff

Requires sole UK national with ability to gain SC clearance

Mainly remote working with 1-2 days per month at Helensburgh.
