As a Data Analyst Intern, you will work closely with the IT team to model and query the organisation's core SQL databases, upkeep the data dictionary, and document and monitor connections to source systems. Key responsibilities include performing ETL processes using SQL, Python, or R, and developing business intelligence dashboards in Power BI and Microsoft Fabric to surface insights for stakeholders across the firm.
This role sits at the heart of how the organisation makes decisions — the data curated and visualised by the intern directly informs management strategy and operational priorities. The internship offers hands-on experience from data engineering to visualisation and develops an understanding of how clean, well-presented data drives real business outcomes. The ideal candidate is curious, detail-oriented, and eager to translate raw data into clear, actionable insights.
Key Responsibilities:
Data Infrastructure & Governance
Model objects within the organisation's core SQL database to support analytical and reporting needs.
Maintain the data dictionary to ensure accurate, up-to-date documentation of data assets.
Document and monitor connections between the core database and upstream and downstream source systems.
ETL & Automation
Perform ETL processes using SQL, Python, or R to integrate data from internal and external sources.
Automate the retrieval of data from external sources (e.g., APIs) to reduce manual effort and improve timeliness.
Business Intelligence & Reporting
Develop business intelligence dashboards in Power BI and Fabric to deliver actionable insights to stakeholders.
Translate analytical findings and detected anomalies into clear reports and dashboards that support data quality monitoring and remediation.
Data Quality & Anomaly Detection
Ensure data quality within the data mart by developing and maintaining exception reports.
Apply predictive and statistical modelling techniques to detect data quality issues such as unexpected volume changes, missing data patterns, and outlier values.
Develop rule-based and model-driven anomaly detection checks, using historical data as a baseline to flag deviations for review.
What we're looking for:
Bachelor's degree in computer science, data science, or a related field
Experience with data modelling and data dictionary management
Experience with ETL tools such as Fabric, SQL, Python and R
Experience with business intelligence tools such as PowerBI or Tableau
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
