The Senior Scrum Master is a seasoned servant leader and facilitator responsible for enabling Agile delivery across multiple scrum teams or complex programs. In this role, the Senior Scrum Master not only facilitates team-level ceremonies but also drives cross-team alignment, helps mentor Scrum Masters, and partners with leadership to embed Agile practices across the organization.

By leading Agile ceremonies and maintaining an environment of open communication, the Senior Scrum Master ensures consistent delivery of high-quality work. They work closely with Product Owners to maintain a well-groomed backlog and help align team output with business objectives. Through proactive impediment removal and coaching on Agile principles, the Senior Scrum Master fosters a collaborative culture that supports both individual and team growth. This role is also responsible for driving visibility and accountability through metrics and regular reporting to stakeholders.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

               

Agile Facilitation & Ceremony Leadership:

  • Lead and facilitate Agile ceremonies including daily stand-ups, sprint planning, review and retrospectives.
  • Ensure meetings are purposeful, time-boxed, and result in actionable outcomes.
  • Maintain team Agile discipline and identify maturity opportunities.
  • Guide sprint planning using knowledge of assigned technology domain (e.g. cloud)
  • Support scaling efforts by coordinating across multiple teams (Scrum of Scrums, quarterly planning, or equivalent forums).

Team Support & Impediment Removal:

  • Proactively identify and remove impediments to maintain team momentum and velocity.
  • Serve as a buffer between the team and external distractions, protecting team focus.
  • Model and promote resilience during change or uncertainty
  • Partner with Product Owners, Program Managers, and Portfolio Leads to align delivery outcomes with business strategy and value goals
  • Encourage data-driven decision-making and ensure Agile metrics are leveraged to support planning and predictability
  • Sustain influence and shape team identity.

Agile Coaching & Best Practices:

  • Provide ongoing coaching on Agile principles, Scrum framework, and team collaboration techniques.
  • Support the team’s Agile maturity by introducing and reinforcing best practices and continuous improvement habits.
  • Mentor other Scrum Masters and Agile practitioners, modeling effective servant leadership and continuous improvement practices.   

Collaboration with Stakeholders:

  • Act as a trusted advisor to leaders and stakeholders, ensuring transparency and alignment across initiatives.
  • Work closely with Product Owners, Program and Portfolio Managers, and other stakeholders to ensure clarity and alignment on priorities.
  • Assist in backlog refinement and prioritization to ensure that work is well-defined and actionable.               

Metrics, Reporting & Transparency:

  • Track sprint metrics such as velocity, burndown, predictability and team capacity to inform planning and improvements.
  • Use data to provide actionable insights that improve delivery performance and transparency.
  • Promote open communication through regular reporting and updates to stakeholders on progress and risks.

REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • 4-6 years of experience as a Scrum Master
  • Strong understanding of Agile frameworks and servant leadership principles
  • Proven ability to facilitate Agile ceremonies and remove team impediments
  • Demonstrated success enabling multiple Agile teams or programs to achieve their outcomes and goals in complex environments
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in one of the following technology domains: Cybersecurity, Digital, Cloud, Data and AI, or Healthcare IT (e.g., Epic)
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
  • Experience with Agile delivery tools (Jira)
  • Experience working in scaled Agile environments
  • Ability to guide teams through the practical application of Agile values and principles 
  • Strong facilitation skills for Agile ceremonies, workshops, and team discussions 
  • Clear and concise communicator, able to engage with technical teams and non-technical stakeholders 
  • Proactive in addressing risks and obstacles before they impact timelines 
  • Competence in using Agile metrics to drive team performance 
  • Ability to analyze data and use it to foster transparency, predictability, and accountability 
  • Able to configure boards, generate reports, and streamline workflows to support team efficiency 
  • Comfortable in fast-paced, evolving environments with little to no exposure to Agility. 
  • Ability to quickly adapt and learn other technical skills on the fly.   

PREFERRED:

  • Professional Scrum Master (PSM), or equivalent Agile certification 
  • Experience working in scaled Agile environments 
  • Background in change management or Lean Methodologies.
