Job Description

As Tech Lead App (React Native), you shape the technical direction of our mobile applications across iOS and Android, ensuring a scalable, consistent and high-performing app foundation within our digital ecosystem.

You connect product ambitions with robust mobile engineering solutions, ensuring that React Native applications, native modules, backend APIs, data flows, and third-party services work together coherently to deliver seamless customer experiences across mobile platforms.

This is a hands-on technical leadership role. You are expected to be deeply embedded in the codebase while guiding architectural decisions across React Native structure, state management, performance, native integrations, and release workflows. You understand modern mobile engineering practices well enough to challenge, guide, review, and contribute directly when needed. In short: not only leading from design discussions, but also actively shaping implementation in the real product.

You are not a gatekeeper, but a facilitator of strong engineering practices, shared ownership, and continuous improvement within the mobile domain.

About the team

You will join the Digital Architecture & Technology team, a team that works across Digital to shape scalable, secure, and maintainable technology solutions. We partner closely with product teams, engineers, business stakeholders, and external technology partners across areas such as MarTech, Customer Relations and Content & Design.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership

  • Own and guide the technical direction of the React Native application(s).
  • Make architectural decisions around navigation, state management, modules, performance, and native integrations.
  • Ensure consistent patterns, coding standards, and best practices across the mobile codebase.
  • Evaluate and integrate mobile-specific frameworks, libraries, and native capabilities when beneficial.

Team Enablement

  • Mentor developers, support technical growth, and elevate mobile engineering maturity.
  • Lead technical discussions, facilitate design reviews, and enable shared ownership within the team.
  • Collaborate with backend engineers to align APIs, data structures, and contracts with mobile needs.
  • Support QA/Test & Reliability in ensuring stable, well-tested mobile releases.

Delivery & Quality

  • Drive high-quality implementation and performance optimisation across iOS and Android.
  • Oversee mobile CI/CD pipelines and release workflows.
  • Help teams proactively manage technical debt, platform differences, device fragmentation, and edge cases.
  • Safeguard accessibility, UX consistency, offline behaviour, and app resiliency.

Qualifications

  • 6+ years of software engineering experience, with strong React Native expertise.
  • Deep understanding of mobile architecture, state management, performance optimisation, and native bridging.
  • Experience shipping and maintaining production apps in App Store and Google Play.
  • Solid knowledge of TypeScript, modern React patterns, and mobile testing frameworks.
  • Comfortable working with native iOS/Android code (Swift/Kotlin/Java) when required.
  • Knowledge of mobile CI/CD, release automation, crash/error monitoring, and analytics solutions.
  • Strong communication and facilitation skills, able to guide decisions and align stakeholders.

What we expect from you

We’re looking for someone who leads by example through clean code, clear thinking, and a calm, constructive way of working. Someone who naturally brings others along, rather than taking over decisions, and helps create real shared ownership within the team.

In mobile, you’re comfortable with complexity. You make pragmatic choices around performance, device differences, UX constraints, and native quirks, always keeping the user and product in mind.

You help others understand the “why” behind decisions. Technical trade-offs don’t stay hidden with you, you translate them clearly for both engineers and non-technical partners, bringing alignment instead of confusion. You balance speed with sustainability. You care about delivering today, but not at the expense of tomorrow’s stability or maintainability. And you stay curious. You follow how React Native and the wider mobile ecosystem evolves, and you take time to evaluate what’s genuinely valuable, not just what’s new
