About the Role

In conjunction with the Head of Enterprise Legal, the role is responsible for providing legal advice to Rest Business Units, Board and management regarding incidents, breaches, regulator engagements and regulator-initiated proceedings relating to Rest. Where appropriate or required, the role will also assist with other matters being handled by the broader Enterprise Legal team

Key Accountabilities/Responsibilities

  • Provide clear legal advice on regulatory reporting and notification obligations impacting Rest.
  • Guide the business on legislative, regulatory and licensing requirements (including representative conduct).
  • Support regulator engagements and correspondence, including ASIC and APRA.
  • Manage regulator-initiated disputes and litigation, partnering with external counsel as required.
  • Provide timely, practical advice to leaders to support strategic decisions and delivery.
  • Monitor regulatory change, brief stakeholders and contribute to industry forums where needed.
  • Support projects with legal review of documents, communications and policy updates.
  • Prepare Board/Committee papers and provide legal input at executive and management forums.
  • Build capability through legal training, knowledge sharing and a strong WHS/safety culture.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Laws or relevant degree, with admission in an Australian jurisdiction and a current practising certificate.
  • Demonstrated experience within a similar role, ideally in financial services or superannuation.
  • Strong analytical, research, and commercial acumen with the ability to assess legal and risk implications.
  • In-depth knowledge of superannuation law and trustee obligations.
  • Skilled in clear, plain-English legal drafting.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and competing deadlines.
  • Experience handling litigated claims.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across all levels and with strategic partners.
