Looking for Philippines-based candidates
Job Role: Senior SMSF Accountant
Compensation range: $3,000 AUD - $4,000 AUD / Monthly
Engagement type: Independent Contractor Agreement
Work Schedule: This role is expected to align with the AU business hours (approx. 9 AM - 5 PM, Monday to Friday) for collaboration, but as a contractor, you’ll have flexibility in how you manage your time.
Who We Are: At Hunt St, we help Australian companies hire top remote talent in the Philippines. For this role, you will be engaged directly by the client as an independent contractor. We are not an outsourcing agency. All of our roles are 100% remote so you'll be able to work from home.
Who The Client Is: We are a mid-sized SMSF specialist practice experiencing rapid organic growth. We service approximately 1,200 Self-Managed Super Fund (SMSF) clients, delivering their tax returns and audits each year, and are part of a broader business that includes Financial Planning, Mortgage Services and Insurance advisory services.
Role Overview: This is an offshore, work-from-home role. You will work independently as part of a collaborative team spanning our in-house accountants, client services personnel and offshore colleagues, coordinating with clients and external audit service providers. Reliable time management, self-direction and clear written and verbal communication are essential, and you will maintain a consistent daily overlap with Australian (AEST) business hours to collaborate with the team.
As a Senior SMSF Accountant, you report to an SMSF Team Leader. You will process and prepare more complex SMSF jobs, assist and mentor the Junior SMSF Accountants who handle the majority of routine accounts processing, and undertake a small review function over simpler tasks. You will refer complex technical matters to your SMSF Team Leader.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and process more complex SMSF returns, financial statements, and workpapers accurately and to the deadline
- Undertake a limited review function over simpler jobs and workpapers prepared by Junior Accountants, referring complex matters to the SMSF Team Leader
- Assist and mentor Junior SMSF Accountants, supporting their technical development and answering day-to-day queries
- Apply a solid working knowledge of Class Super across fund processing, reconciliations and reporting
- Apply a solid working knowledge of SMSF property investments, including Limited Recourse Borrowing Arrangements (LRBAs)
- Identify and raise technical or compliance issues with the SMSF Team Leader for resolution
- Assist with audit preparation and respond to audit queries as directed by the SMSF Team Leader
- Contribute to a smooth workflow, meeting service standards and flagging capacity issues early
- Support client services with client queries and, where required, some direct client communication
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- A degree or tertiary qualification in accounting
- CA or CPA qualified (or well progressed toward completion)
- 3+ years’ experience in SMSF returns, including exposure to LRBA structures and SMSF property
- Experience preparing complex SMSF jobs and confidence mentoring less experienced staff
- Class Super (essential and non-negotiable – you must have a strong, demonstrated working knowledge)
- BGL Simple Fund 360 experience highly regarded
- Competency across Microsoft Office/Windows suite, XPM (or comparable practice management software) and CAS
- Proven ability to work independently in a remote, offshore setting with excellent time management
- High level of written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Highly organised and self-motivated, able to prioritise files to maintain service standards
Why Join Our Team?
- Be part of a firm experiencing rapid organic client growth
- A collaborative and positive workplace culture, even in a remote setting
- A genuine, structured career pathway across the SMSF accounting team
- Permanent work-from-home role with the flexibility that brings
