Job Description
Deliver Power System Studies including Load Flow analysis, providing comprehensive analysis with advice and recommendations grounded in robust engineering and power studies, supporting the renewable energy transition. This role enables you to play an important part in the planning, initiating, and optimising of complex and varied generation assets into the energy system, during an exciting and rapidly changing time in the renewable energy sector.
Ideally based in Perth Western Australia (there is scope to be based out of other AECOM offices), you will be part of a passionate team of Energy technical, project and client teams with a focus on making a difference. You will be a key part of the team, providing input and technical knowledge across the Power System Studies discipline, working across a very broad range of project types. You will be part of the team that is enabling renewable power generation to successfully, safely and appropriately be connected across complex grid and transmission assets. You will thrive in supporting detailed analysis, solving complex technical challenges while also be able to understand the key part your role plays in connecting wind, solar, BESS, hydro and alternative fuel generation assets to transmission and distribution assets.
How you will make a difference
- Complete and deliver load flow studies and analysis applying proven techniques and relevant standards and regulations, across steady state and dynamic power flow studies.
- Perform power system studies and analyses, including load flow, short circuit, arc-flash, stability, and reliability assessments.
- Provide insight and recommendations based on robust evidence and analysis, to clients and projects across a variety of generation assets, substations, transmission and renewable assets.
- Apply as a super user, your relevant application skills including with Power Factor, ETAP and PSCAD experience or related power system analysis tools.
- Work across a variety of client and project types displaying the ability to apply first principals to different project requirements, including with State Power organisations, generators, private companies and into large or remotely based power uses with niche requirements.
- Provide input into client proposals elevating Power System Studies requirements, inputs and task requirements including input into project proposed budgets.
- Support project delivery through assisting in the planning, scheduling and completing of power system projects working with project teams, clients, contractors and other stakeholders.
- Provide mentoring and coaching for the development of others Power System and related technical knowledge and abilities, supporting their career development.
Qualifications
To be successful in this role at AECOM, you will be both experienced delivering Power System Studies and looking to be part of a larger team focused on making a difference across the Energy and Renewables sector. You will be known for your power studies, analysis and technical abilities as well as how to interpret and present highly technical findings, that align with specific client, site and project requirements. Importantly, you will be looking to develop your career and the impact you can have, across the Power Systems Studies discipline.

What you will bring
- Prior experience (6+ years, ideally more) in performing Power System Studies or Grid Connection related analysis for dynamic or island systems is critical for this role.
- A track record of preparing technical study reports across Renewable Energy Grid Connection works covering Wind, Solar PV, Hybrid, BESS and related assets.
- Experienced in using, applying and interpreting Power System tools including DigSilent PowerFactory, ETAP, PSCAD or equivalent.
- Ideally experience working across relevant Australian regulations across States, or with equivalent New Zealand standards and regulations.
- The ability to complete detailed analysis and provide insight and input into complex and critical energy infrastructure projects, as part of the AECOM energy team.
- A collaborative mindset and work approach, able to work across technical disciplines as well as with teams based in remote geographic offices.
- A degree in Electrical Engineering or related topics, ideally supported by a Chartered Engineering designation, or working towards that.
- Able and motivated to coach, mentor and develop others across the Power Studies discipline, enabling the growth of the next generation of engineers.
