We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) to serve as a Clinical Subject Matter Expert (SME) supporting our Data Science and AI initiatives. In this role, you will provide clinical expertise throughout the development, validation, and continuous improvement of AI-driven healthcare solutions. You will collaborate closely with data scientists, machine learning engineers, product teams, and clinical stakeholders to ensure AI models and analytics accurately reflect clinical practice, support quality outcomes, and meet healthcare documentation standards.
The ideal candidate combines strong clinical knowledge with analytical thinking, a deep understanding of clinical documentation and utilization management, and an interest in applying emerging AI technologies to improve healthcare outcomes.
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

Serve as the clinical expert supporting the design, development, testing, and validation of AI and data science solutions.

Review, interpret, and annotate clinical documentation and medical records to support machine learning model development and evaluation.

Validate AI-generated clinical outputs and assess generative AI responses for clinical accuracy, completeness, and appropriateness.

Evaluate model predictions, identify discrepancies, investigate complex clinical cases, and provide actionable recommendations for model improvement.

Define and validate clinical acceptance criteria, including Definition of Ready and Definition of Done for clinical features and AI outcomes.

Support clinical outcome measurement and ensure AI products align with evidence-based clinical practice and organizational quality standards.

Participate in operational testing, quality assurance, and automation of clinical outcome testing.

Apply expertise in utilization review, revenue cycle, and clinical documentation to ensure accurate interpretation of patient records.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Data Science, Engineering, Product Management, Clinical Operations, and Quality teams, to translate clinical requirements into technical solutions.

Communicate clinical findings, rationale, and recommendations clearly to technical and non-clinical stakeholders.

Support continuous improvement of AI models through ongoing clinical feedback, documentation review, and outcome analysis.
Required Qualifications
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license.
- Minimum of 5 years of clinical nursing experience.
- Experience in Utilization Review (UR).
- Strong understanding of clinical documentation, medical record interpretation, and healthcare documentation standards.
- Working knowledge of healthcare reimbursement and revenue cycle processes.
- Demonstrated analytical and critical thinking skills with the ability to investigate complex clinical scenarios.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain clinical concepts to technical audiences.
- Comfortable using AI-assisted technologies such as ChatGPT, Claude, or similar generative AI tools.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience conducting medical record audits.
- Case Management experience is preferred.
- Experience supporting quality improvement or regulatory healthcare programs.
- Exposure to healthcare analytics, data science, or machine learning projects.
- Basic understanding of statistics and data analysis concepts.
- Experience working with healthcare technology, software development, or product teams.

Success Measures
Success in this role will be demonstrated by the ability to:

- Contribute to the successful delivery of AI solutions that improve clinical outcomes and operational efficiency.
- Effectively bridge the gap between clinical practice and data science teams through clear communication and expert clinical guidance.
- Work is typically in a normal office administrative environment involving minimal exposure to physical risks.
- Position requires little to moderate physical activity. Mostly sedentary work exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally or a negligible amount of force to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Work involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. No significant stooping is usually required.
- This role requires travel to our home offices in TN for training.
