Position Overview
We are seeking a highly organized and customer-focused Admissions Clerk to join our healthcare team. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the patient admissions process, coordinating new patient intake, scheduling appointments, and ensuring all patient information is collected accurately and efficiently. This role requires excellent communication skills, strong attention to detail, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment while providing exceptional service to patients.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the first point of contact for new and existing patients via phone, email, and other communication channels.
- Complete new patient intake by collecting demographic, medical, insurance, and referral information.
- Schedule, reschedule, and confirm patient appointments while optimizing provider schedules.
- Verify insurance eligibility and ensure all required documentation is received prior to appointments.
- Obtain and upload patient records, referrals, authorizations, and consent forms.
- Maintain accurate patient records within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR/EHR) system.
- Coordinate with providers, clinical staff, and patients to ensure a smooth admissions process.
- Respond professionally to patient inquiries and provide updates regarding appointments and documentation.
- Follow up with patients to obtain missing information and confirm upcoming appointments.
- Ensure all patient information is entered accurately while maintaining confidentiality and HIPAA compliance.
- Assist with administrative tasks and support the healthcare team as needed.
Requirements
- Minimum of 2 years' experience in medical administration, patient intake, admissions, scheduling, or a similar healthcare support role.
- Excellent verbal and written English communication skills.
- Strong customer service and telephone etiquette.
- Experience working with EMR/EHR systems.
- Knowledge of medical terminology and healthcare administration.
- Experience with insurance verification and referrals is advantageous.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel).
- Comfortable working with multiple software platforms and learning new systems quickly.
- Strong organizational, time management, and multitasking abilities.
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work independently while managing competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
