Job Description

Pipe fabrication, welding and installation in units and blocks, and in the ship under construction. Replacement of defective pipe system elements in Ship Repair projects. Projects will cover a range of vessels across the naval, marine, and repair sectors and the role will require flexibility between New-Build fabrication and construction, and Ship Repair projects.

Main Duties

  • Maintenance of a Safe working environment, compliance with specific Safety procedures
  • Read and interpret piping drawings, P&IDs, spool fabrication sheets etc on drawings
  • Profile and shape pipes and components using handheld power tools, mechanical cutting machines and associated tooling
  • Prepare and fit piping systems according to engineering drawings and specifications. 
  • Prepare, assemble, and install piping systems, including site fitting and alignment
  • Test pipework and systems, diagnose faults, assist with system commissioning
  • Understand weld procedures (WPSs) and perform welds as necessary, defect checking
  • Work as part of a team of pipe fitters and other associated trades
  • Set up and operation of mechanical and welding equipment as necessary

Qualifications

Essential Competencies

  • Knowledge of pipefitting workplace Safety requirements and good working practices
  • Demonstrable experience of pipe fabrication, welding (as necessary) and fitting processes (preferably have served a recognised apprenticeship or equivalent)
  • Understanding of Engineering drawings and technical documents
  • Understanding of Quality procedures and Pipe Fabrication and Installation Standards
  • Possession of an appropriate current and valid Welding Qualification Certificate (ISO9606-1)
  • Ability to work on own initiative, seeking advice when necessary
  • Flexible cooperation with other team-members
  • Ability to pass a trade test

  • Work execution independently according to valid instructions, rules and standards
  • Effectiveness in identifying issues for upward reporting/investigation
