Construction Survey & Layout Technician

About the Role
We are hiring a skilled Construction Survey & Layout Technician to support structural steel construction projects throughout Maryland and Virginia. This position is primarily field-based and is ideal for someone with experience in construction layout, surveying, and structural steel installation.
The successful candidate will travel to active job sites, perform layout and survey work, verify field measurements, and help ensure structural components are installed accurately and safely.
### Key Responsibilities
Perform field surveys using total stations and other surveying equipment.
Establish control points, building layout lines, column locations, and anchor bolt positions.
Verify elevations, embeds, alignment, and structural positioning throughout construction.
Create and maintain accurate as-built documentation.
Assist field crews by confirming proper placement and alignment of structural steel.
Support the installation of structural and miscellaneous steel components, including stairs and shaft framing.
Work closely with project teams and other trades to maintain layout accuracy and structural tolerances.
Utilize software including Trimble, Bluebeam, CAD, and Microsoft Office for documentation and project support.
Follow all company and job site safety requirements while working in active construction environments.
### Qualifications
At least 3 years of experience in construction surveying, layout, or structural steel erection.
Experience with grading, slope calculations, and layout for structural or miscellaneous metals.
Proficiency using total stations or comparable surveying instruments.
Working knowledge of AISC standards related to structural alignment and building layout.
Ability to travel regularly to project sites throughout Maryland and Virginia.
Comfortable working at heights, including elevated steel, scaffolding, and aerial lifts.
Strong attention to detail with the ability to produce accurate measurements.
Effective communication skills and the ability to collaborate with field personnel.
