Job Description

We are seeking a Controls & Instrumentation Engineer to own the programming, commissioning, and lifecycle support of mission-critical facility automation systems within a high-volume semiconductor fabrication environment. This role is responsible for the SCADA platform, PLC fleet, and OT network underpinning the fab's Central Management System (CMS) and Fab Monitoring System (FMS). These systems control process cooling water, general exhaust, chillers, cooling towers, and cleanroom HVAC, as well as the life-safety gas and chemical monitoring infrastructure. The ideal candidate is equally comfortable writing structured text logic at the controller level, architecting a multi-gateway SCADA platform, and coordinating commissioning activities on an active construction floor with multiple engineering and trade contractors.

Key Responsibilities

SCADA Platform & OT Network Administration

  • Administer a multi-gateway Ignition SCADA environment, including redundant CMS/FMS production gateway pairs, an admin gateway, and development gateways
  • Lead version upgrade planning and execution across the gateway fleet, including Enterprise Administration Module (EAM) Controller/Agent topology and Remote Tag Provider architecture for dev-to-production tag consumption
  • Design and maintain Perspective-based HMI screens and support Python/Jython scripting for automated reporting, alarming, and notification workflows
  • Diagnosing and resolving OT network issues affecting control communications
  • Maintain OPC UA server/client architecture and certificate management between PLCs and the SCADA layer

PLC Programming & Controls Development

  • Develop, test, and maintain control logic on Schneider Electric M251 and M580 platforms (EcoStruxure Machine Expert) for HVAC air handling/makeup air units, process utilities, and life-safety monitoring points
  • Author control narratives and functional logic for system, including but not limited to HVAC, Process cooling water, Waste Water, etc..
  • Configure and commission variable frequency drives and other motor equipment.
  • Develop and maintain a site PLC hardware standard governing controller selection criterion for redundant vs. non-redundant systems
  • Write and maintain Modbus TCP, OPC UA, and Ethernet/IP integration logic between PLCs, VFDs, and third-party devices

Commissioning & Project Execution

  • Lead startup and commissioning of cleanroom equipment under accelerated or constrained schedules
  • Coordinate commissioning activities across mechanical, electrical, and controls trade contractors to maintain project schedule and resolve field conflicts
  • Review and provide technical feedback on engineering-of-record design packages, identifying discrepancies in control narratives, alarm tables, and sequence logic prior to construction
  • Generate and maintain commissioning documentation, including startup checklists and test result records

Documentation, Standards & Cross-Functional Coordination

  • Author and maintain engineering specifications, control narratives, and standards documents for facility automation systems
  • Serve as the controls point of contact for systems integrators, engineering-of-record firms, and equipment vendors throughout design review, procurement, and field installation
  • Draft scope, change order, and technical correspondence to clarify design intent and resolve gaps between issued engineering packages and field conditions
  • Support vendor and contractor coordination for SCADA integration scopes spanning hundreds of field devices and thousands of monitored data points

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Controls Engineering, or equivalent practical experience
  • Hands-on PLC programming experience (Schneider Electric M251/M580 or comparable platforms such as Allen-Bradley, Siemens) using IEC 61131-3 languages (Structured Text, Ladder Logic)
  • Production experience with an industrial SCADA platform (Inductive Automation Ignition preferred) including Perspective/Vision HMI development and gateway administration
  • Working knowledge of industrial communication protocols: Modbus TCP, OPC UA, Ethernet/IP
  • Understanding of OT network architecture, including VLAN segmentation, managed switch configuration
  • Experience with control sequences and building/facility automation systems
  • Strong written communication skills for technical documentation and cross-team coordination with engineering, construction, and vendor partners

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting a semiconductor fab, cleanroom, or other critical-infrastructure facility (life-safety monitoring, ultra-pure water, process cooling water systems)
  • Familiarity with VFD configuration and commissioning (Danfoss, ABB, Allen Bradley or comparable)
  • Experience with Ignition Enterprise Administration Module (EAM) and multi-gateway redundant architectures
  • Exposure to building management system migrations (e.g., legacy BMS platforms to modern SCADA)
  • Scripting experience in Python/Jython for SCADA automation and reporting

Additional Information

  • This role will work on site in Roseville, CA.
  • This position generally works Monday-Friday, additional hours as necessary
  • Indefinite US work authorized individuals only.  Future sponsorship for work authorization unavailable.
