Job Overview

Our client is seeking an experienced Heavy Wheeled Equipment Field Technician to join their growing service team. This position is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, maintaining, and servicing a wide variety of heavy construction and earthmoving equipment at customer job sites. The ideal candidate is a self-motivated professional with strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills who enjoys working independently while providing exceptional customer service.

This is a field-based position requiring travel to customer locations to ensure equipment is operating safely and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain heavy construction and earthmoving equipment in the field.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on excavators, bulldozers, wheel loaders, motor graders, articulated trucks, skid steers, compact track loaders, backhoes, rollers, and other heavy equipment.
  • Troubleshoot diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, powertrain components, transmissions, final drives, and braking systems.
  • Inspect equipment and identify mechanical, hydraulic, or electrical failures.
  • Utilize electronic diagnostic software, OEM service tools, and technical manuals to identify and repair equipment issues.
  • Repair or replace components including hydraulic pumps, cylinders, hoses, valves, injectors, turbochargers, cooling systems, and electrical wiring.
  • Perform welding, fabrication, and minor machining repairs when necessary.
  • Complete service reports, work orders, inspection forms, and maintenance documentation accurately and timely.
  • Maintain company service truck inventory, tools, and equipment.
  • Communicate repair recommendations and equipment status with customers and service management.
  • Follow all OSHA regulations, company safety policies, and manufacturer repair procedures.
  • Respond to emergency breakdowns and provide timely field support to minimize customer downtime.
  • Participate in after-hours or on-call service rotation as required.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and provide outstanding customer service.

Requirements

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Technical school or diesel technology certification preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience repairing heavy construction or earthmoving equipment.
  • Experience servicing equipment from manufacturers such as Caterpillar, Komatsu, John Deere, Volvo, Hitachi, Case, Hyundai, Doosan, or similar brands preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and electronic controls.
  • Experience reading hydraulic schematics, wiring diagrams, and service manuals.
  • Proficient using diagnostic software and electronic troubleshooting tools.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • CDL is a plus but not required.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Physical Requirements

  • Lift and carry up to 75 pounds.

  • Operate service vehicles and heavy equipment safely.
