About Altium
Altium is transforming the way electronics are designed and built. Our cloud platform, Altium 365, enables distributed teams to collaborate seamlessly across the entire electronics development lifecycle - from design to manufacturing. By connecting people, processes, and data, Altium 365 helps teams move faster, reduce errors, and deliver high-quality hardware products at scale.
We are looking for a Senior / Lead Design Systems Designer to define, scale, and drive adoption of the design system for Altium 365.
In this role, you will operate at both strategic and hands-on levels, shaping the foundations of a system that supports complex, data-rich, collaborative cloud experiences. You will partner closely with design, engineering, and product leadership to ensure consistency, scalability, and high quality across the platform.
You will act as a system owner and advocate, enabling teams to deliver cohesive and efficient user experiences while balancing flexibility for evolving product needs.
Key Responsibilities:
Design System Strategy & Ownership:
- Define and drive the vision, roadmap, and evolution of the Altium 365 design system.
- Establish principles and standards for scalable, consistent UI and interaction patterns.
- Make high-impact decisions on system architecture, structure, and naming conventions.
System Design & Architecture:
- Design and maintain robust, reusable components, patterns, and design tokens.
- Build scalable solutions for complex, data-heavy, and collaborative interfaces.
- Ensure the system supports responsiveness, extensibility, and long-term growth.
Cross-Functional Leadership:
- Partner with engineering leaders to align design system outputs with implementation (component libraries, tokens, etc.).
- Collaborate with product designers to integrate system thinking into everyday workflows.
- Act as a mentor and point of expertise for designers contributing to or consuming the system.
Adoption & Enablement:
- Drive adoption of the design system across multiple teams and product areas.
- Define contribution models and workflows for scaling the system sustainably.
- Educate teams through documentation, reviews, and workshops.
Documentation & Governance:
- Establish and maintain clear, structured documentation for components, patterns, and best practices.
- Define governance models, including contribution guidelines, versioning, and release processes.
- Ensure alignment with accessibility, usability, and quality standards.
Design–Engineering Alignment:
- Work closely with front-end engineers to ensure consistency between design and code.
- Help define and maintain design tokens and their integration into engineering systems.
- Identify and reduce gaps between design intent and implementation.
Quality & Continuous Improvement:
- Audit product experiences to ensure consistency with the design system.
- Identify fragmentation and drive consolidation of patterns and components.
- Use feedback and data to iteratively improve the system.
What Success Looks Like:
- A well-governed, scalable design system widely adopted across Altium 365.
- Strong alignment between design and engineering, reducing implementation inconsistencies.
- Increased velocity for product teams through reusable, well-documented components.
- Consistent, high-quality user experience across all areas of the platform.
- A culture of system thinking embedded within the design organization.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- 3+ years of experience in product design, with significant focus on design systems.
- Proven experience leading or owning a design system in a complex, multi-team environment.
- Strong systems thinking and experience designing scalable UI architectures.
- Advanced proficiency in Figma (components, variables, tokens, libraries at scale).
- Deep understanding of interaction design, responsiveness, and modern web application patterns.
- Experience working closely with engineers and understanding front-end constraints.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with SaaS or cloud platforms, especially collaborative or data-intensive products.
- Strong understanding of design tokens, theming, and multi-product scalability.
- Familiarity with front-end frameworks (e.g., Vue.js) and component-driven development.
- Experience defining governance models and contribution workflows.
- Knowledge of accessibility standards (WCAG) and inclusive design practices.
Nice to Have:
- Experience designing for complex technical or professional user workflows.
- Ability to simplify and standardize data-dense, collaborative interfaces.
- Passion for building systems that empower teams and scale across evolving products
