Job Description

As a Certified Pharmacy Technician, you'll work across multiple pharmacy practice areas supporting inpatient and outpatient operations, medication distribution, pharmacy automation, inventory management, compounding, and regulatory compliance while applying a broad range of Pharmacy Technician skills.

This onsite position offers the opportunity to apply a broad range of Pharmacy Technician skills across inpatient and outpatient pharmacy operations based on operational needs.

This position is contingent upon contract award.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process, prepare, package, and fill outpatient prescriptions and inpatient medication orders for pharmacist verification
  • Enter and maintain accurate patient and medication information within the pharmacy information system
  • Support medication distribution for inpatient and outpatient pharmacy operations
  • Receive, stock, rotate, reconcile, and maintain medication inventory and supplies
  • Store and secure medications according to USP, VA, and regulatory requirements, including controlled substances, hazardous medications, refrigerated products, and high-alert medications
  • Operate automated dispensing cabinets, barcode technology, unit-dose packaging equipment, and other pharmacy automation systems while reporting and troubleshooting equipment issues as appropriate
  • Perform assigned ward and clinic medication inspections, remove expired medications, and complete required documentation
  • Compound or reconstitute non-sterile medications following established procedures and pharmacist verification requirements
  • Assist with sterile compounding activities when assigned and qualified
  • Answer routine pharmacy distribution questions while referring clinical concerns to the supervising pharmacist
  • Identify potential medication distribution issues, including duplicate therapy concerns, and escalate appropriately
  • Maintain clean, organized, and compliant pharmacy work areas
  • Collaborate with pharmacists and healthcare professionals to support safe medication practices and quality patient care

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • National Pharmacy Technician certification through PTCB (CPhT) or NHA (ExCPT)
  • 1–2+ years of recent Pharmacy Technician experience within the past 24 months in an inpatient, outpatient, or hospital/health system pharmacy
  • Experience using computerized pharmacy systems to process prescriptions and medication orders
  • Experience supporting medication inventory management and pharmacy operations
  • Working knowledge of pharmacy terminology, dosage forms, medication storage, and distribution practices
  • Ability to operate pharmacy automation and dispensing technology
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English
  • Must meet all VA credentialing, background investigation, and onboarding requirements

Preferred Experience

  • VA or other integrated healthcare pharmacy systems
  • Inpatient and outpatient pharmacy practice
  • Sterile and non-sterile compounding
  • Pharmacy automation and automated dispensing equipment
  • Controlled substance handling and regulatory compliance
