Senior Hydraulics Engineer - Dams

Job Description

AECOM is delivering some of Australia’s most critical water infrastructure projects. With major investment in dam infrastructure and long-term partnerships with Dam owners nationwide, we offer an unparalleled opportunity to work on complex and high-impact projects across the country.

As part of our industry leading Dams team, you’ll contribute to feasibility studies, design, construction, and asset management, collaborating with specialists nationally and internationally to develop sustainable water solutions and mentor the next generation of engineers.

How you’ll make a difference:

  • Hydraulic analysis and conceptual to detailed design of spillways, stilling (dissipator) basins, energy dissipators, erosion protection, outlet works (hydraulics), retarding basins, service basin.
  • Inspection, investigation and condition assessment of existing dams.
  • Construction support services including inspection of works, evaluation of quality control and quality assurance data and construction reporting.
  • Preparation of tenders and proposals.

Qualifications

The qualities that help you thrive:

  • Demonstrated capability in hydraulic modelling and design, including the preparation of design reports, design drawings and specifications, ideally within the dam industry.
  • Experience in interpreting and analysing hydraulic model results, including flow patterns, scour potential, velocities, cavitation potential and water surface profiles.
  • Strong understanding of fluid mechanics, river hydraulics, and hydraulic structure behaviour.
  • Experience in dam projects including spillways, intake structures, outlet works, stilling basins, and river diversion structures.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • You enjoy developing and nurturing relationships with internal stakeholders, clients as well as the local industry, whether through project work, client initiatives or industry associations.
  • A degree in Civil Engineering (essential).
