About the role

TAR builds fully islanded, behind-the-meter microgrids powering AI data centers in West Texas at record speed, and the constraint on how fast we build is talent. As Head of Talent, you own sourcing across the company, and you are the heart of our talent strategy. Most of our hiring is outbound and much of it is deeply technical (power-systems engineers, controls engineers, project and procurement leaders), so you partner closely with our founders and technical leaders to define the right profiles and then go find them.

This is a builder-doer role. You own the process, the pipeline, and the outreach yourself. There is no team to delegate to on day one; you are the heart of strategy and the primary doer at once. You move fast, you learn new domains quickly, and you can pitch TAR as well as a founder can.

Responsibilities

  • Own outbound sourcing across every open role; personally build pipeline and run outreach.

  • Partner with founders and functional leaders to define ideal-candidate profiles, especially for technical and leadership roles, and align on the bar.

  • Run and improve the end-to-end recruiting process (intake, sourcing, screens, on-site, offer) in Ashby; run pipeline reviews; keep time-to-hire low.

  • Own employer brand and the candidate story; pitch TAR compellingly to passive, senior candidates.

  • Maintain compensation and equity benchmarks to guide offer design and close candidates.

  • Build the talent function over time: tooling, playbooks, and eventually the team.

  • Coordinate closely with People & Operations on onboarding and start-date velocity.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years in talent acquisition, technical, or executive recruiting, with hands-on sourcing.

  • Proven outbound sourcing and closing of hard-to-fill technical and/or leadership roles.

  • Ability to learn new technical domains fast and translate them into precise candidate profiles.

  • Comfortable being the heart of strategy and the primary doer at once, with no team to delegate to on day one.

  • Excellent written outreach and the ability to pitch a company like a founder.

  • High agency, high ownership, fast.

Nice To Have

  • Founding or early in-house recruiter at a hard-tech, energy, defense, or deep-tech startup.

  • Experience hiring power-systems, controls, hardware, or infrastructure engineers.

  • Built a recruiting function and team from scratch.

  • Familiarity with Ashby.
